Acroplex, thanks for making a note about my typo, although as you can see i have written the correct version one sentence earlier. I hope you speak another 3 languages besides english... I have no idea why you got so pissed about my semile (letting a domain to expire / construction problems). There was absolutely no need for you to get to this level. :disappointed:

Likewise, my post is about domains. If you have an agenda with the actual 2004 Olympics, then be prepared to hear about it from the other side, far more detailed and objective than the various propaganda that was spewed for reasons known and unknown. I'm Greek and I take offense at such unsubstantiated statements.

I'm sorry if i offended your country, but your country is not equal with you. If i was brainwashed by the mainstream media i apologize, i'm not an insider, just as you indicated.

If you say so.. Starting to regret that i apologized for having a different opinion about a completely irrelevant issue that i only brought up as a comparison.

Games website lost for a pittance

Internet users wishing to find information on the Athens 2004 Olympic Games are no longer able to access its official website after the government failed to renew the rights to the domain name.

A 29.30-euro fee required by site owners to renew domain name ownership rights every two years has not been paid for the athens2004.com or for the athens2004.gr site.

An attempt to access the official site for one of the most important events ever held in the country will bring up a page with links to the Beijing 2008 Games and the International Olympic Committee.

“At a time when Google is paying an enormous amount of money to hold onto every piece of information, we have allowed the content to be lost. This is a developed way to record history and it is a shame for it to be lost,” said the president of the Association of Hellenic Internet Users (EEXI), Nikos Vassilakos.

In contrast, Internet users can still find official information for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and on Australia in 11 different languages, including Greek.

“For the same reason, the site for the Greek presidency of the European Union has suffered the same fate,” added Vassilakos.

The eu2003.gr site, used by Greece while holding the European Union’s rotating presidency in the first half of 2003, is no longer operating.

So can we say that after all these lousy behaviours and characters, actually Greece was included in EU by chance with bias?

I am not sure why you want to turn a technology issue into a political issue.

But if you so insist, Turkey's ONLY way into the EU is the satisfactory resolution of the Cyprus invasion & occupation issue.

If all you really want to do is access the info on the old site, its not actually all gone. You can still see the site as it was in various states of updates by using the Wayback Machine here...

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://athens2004.com

And you might even be able to copy the pages and images to create your own time capsule.

Maybe this will help.

Steve, the point of this post is to mention how a web site is built around a domain for such an important event and lack of planning leads to its loss. I am sure the employee(s) responsible for this are still sitting in their chairs.

Got that. Thanks. Just trying to help. I've seen numerous people/clients who've lost their names due to similar lack of responsibility. So many "here today -gone tomorrow" web companies just out to get money, with little or no respect for the customers' interest. I've actually been successful at getting a few of them back.

Thanks for setting me straight, and sorry for the mispost.

LOL no problem Steve. Trust me, if that were *my* domain I'd be all over the idiot who let it expire, like a cobra.

Turkey's ONLY way into the EU is the satisfactory resolution of the Cyprus invasion & occupation issue.

I have received a message from a mod saying I put dirty laundry to public. I really really do not care a granular size whether I have a membership with dnf or not so just go ahead and ban me! I have gained more expertise while I have not been here. I am not here to discuss domain issues with mobi lovers or make a trade with a piranha reseller!

Regarding the racism, Kıbrıs and EU issue. If you want to see racism and suppression go to Batı Trakya.

I truely believe the EU had already finished its life and there will be no EU in 2020.

I also truely believe if we had not listen to the US and if we freed the whole island in 1974 there will be no Kıbrıs problem today.

And that is where athens2004.com says today:

The site is no longer available, please visit http://www.olympic.org or http://en.beijing2008.com/

Now ban me so that I will free a few more minutes instead of checking this site.

I think you are in need of some serious help. It's fanatics like you that hold back entire countries from progressing alongside the rest of the world.

Don't EVEN get me started here, TurNIC. You're frothing at the mouth with medieval arrogance.

I won't ask you to be banned; in fact I didn't even report your post despite it being unrelated to this entire thread. You have some issues with us Greeks and you're acting it out in a tech-related thread.

So if there will be no EU in 2020 let's hope there will be a Turkey still by then. Because with small-minded people like you, you'd need another European-educated Ataturk to bring you out of the caves.
