Some of you know me from another forum where I'm considered a contrarian. I've started, named and operated many businesses since starting my first business while in college in 1970, and I was introduced to this business/industry four years ago 2017. While I own a few hundred .com domains most of which I've hand registered, I've spent the last six months accumulating about 4,000 .online domains most of which have .com equivalent that's either developed, parked or for sale at places like DAN, Sedo and Afternic.

Like most domains, they don't sell themselves and that's why just 1-3% of aftermarket domains sell each year. Verisign the monopoly controlling the .com "front end" has said the aftermarket consisting of individual investors and brokers has been "hoarding" domains to the detriment of "end user" businesses for years. As a contrarian, this is where I see an unbelievable opportunity.

Because of my past business experience I'm confident there's a better way. However I need help in the way of a technical partner similar to the partners I had while in the medical billing business and debt collection business back in the 80's and 90's. My partner in the medical billing business had a computer science degree from LSU, and he developed some killer software that really put our business that helped take our business from a startup to a business that's doing over 5M in revenues today.

Realizing that extensions like .com, .net, .tech, .online etc. are all the equivalent of an area code or zip code gives me the fire power I need to show end user businesses the value of .com alternatives. Passion sells, and Hail to Liberty🗽

Some may be unaware, you might want to update this sentence to link to your profile there to encourage others to dig deeper into what you have to offer and press you for more education.

Were you able to get bulk discounts for this or did you register them for promo pricing?

Welcome to DNF and hope to see you around more!

I'm known as "That Name Guy" at NP....where you can find my Linkedin bio and other info about me. As for my accumulation of 4,000 .online domains I've bought them all on promo pricing for .99 cents, and with tax they were 1.17 each with renewals being 29.99 for those I choose to renew. I've also been told that renewals could be less depending on my level of success.

About 300 of my .online domains are single word, while the rest are two word domains like; AboutSex.online and AboutCancer.online....note, i don't own either of these domains at the moment but may purchase them later today along with "about" a dozen more like AboutVegas and AboutCanada.online. I doubt anyone will be looking for these domains especially since most sex therapists or cancer specialists even know they're available much less that .online is a new extension that's equivalent to .com. Furthermore, Go Daddy values the keyword "about" @ $2,054, and I plan on using GD's keyword valuation to help sell my domains. Make sense?

Finally, a good marketing/sales rep I believe can sell a domain a day valued at $1,000, and I'd gladly pay them a commission anywhere from 25 to 50%. I'll provide them the names and other tools necessary, but a good salesperson should be able to make 100K plus a year.

Thanks amplify, and I hope this is the beginning of a beneficial and profitable relationship for all.

I'm just scared that you may have painted yourself into a corner, unable to renew names that could sell... in 2~ years. But until then, if you can't turn over 2% at an average of $1470, you won't be able to renew the other 3920 names at $117,600 to make it into year 2. And that's only break-even, let alone anything to put food on the table.

I would be interested in knowing your projected turnover and where a portfolio like this stands in 1, 2, 5 years as...

...your basis of success is on the back of another person in sales willing to move domains for commission only.

What drove you to put down $4680 and have you made any sales yet?

How many emails are you sending out a day? How many calls? You should be on this for hours on end as ultimately this all comes down to you.

I hope you are successful, I really do; I want you to prove to everyone that this is a sustainable model in 1 year.

Like you, i'm sort of a numbers guy myself. While I've attracted an investor who has invested more than enough to cover the approximate $4,680 I've put out for the 4,000 domains, we've identified a half dozen names that we're going to buy ourselves for development. In the interim I just listed 3,631 of them with Afternic, and have priced half of them at a BIN price ranging from a low of $199 to $999.

I know for a fact I have many good names left of the dot because of how their .com equivalents are valued. These are names that I would use for a startup of my own "if" the .com simply wasn't available or was too expensive.

Speculating on projected turnover and where the portfolio stands in 1, 2, 5 years is moot......at least until such time I can attract a partner. The investors I have are a couple of IP and TM lawyers, but they're not hands on partners.

Finally, in addition to my being a numbers guy, I also understand the risk vs. reward model as well as anyone. While I've experienced failure, it's my successes and my experience that tells me this is very DOABLE! Then again I can be hit by lightning the next time i step out my front door or just die in my sleep tonight, but in either case it's still very DOABLE imho!

I really hope so! I never like to see anyone fail.

It sounds like you have the conviction to make this work and I hope to see it come to fruition over the coming years. :)

Good point and to show how passionate I am about the new .online extension I'll be changing my moniker to TipLine where Rick Schwartz aka Domain King owns Tipline.com. Ironically after i registered tipline I checked to see who owned the .com, and to my surprise it led to Rick's website.

I'm not sure we can talk about it here, but I already have a few ideas for a business model for TipLine

Thank Biggie!

Great job, this idea is very unique and interesting that provide different domain in different users.
the value of .com is very high nowadays because everyone wants to prefer .com only !!
