I own my Fullname.com, Nickname.com (what I go by), and mywifesname.com

Definately not a waste of money. I use the site to promote myself (resume, professional articles, etc..).

I think it is better exposure than sites like Monster.com plus it fits perfectly in with the Web 2.0 style. Nothing fancy, just Wordpress and a nice template, some articles in there and I'm good to go.

Plus, it protects me in case someone decides that they don't like me and want to put up a slander site.

Thats my main reason for considering registering myname.com

I would hate for somebody to be looking for me , and find a porn site

That all depends on the quality!

But seriously, there is worse people can do. They can put up a plain old (and unoriginal) slam site where they just insult the heck out of you or if they're savvy enough, put up a site that looks legitimate but have little things here and there that would turn off most visitors (racism, hate, violence, crime, etc..).

I also own my nephew's name.com for my sister to document his progress (he's a year old) and for him to use when he gets older, I think by the time he is old enough to be able to manage it himself that the internet will be even more important in our society than it is today. I just wish I registered it on the day he was born.

I also own the .com for a friend of mine who's site I manage (and other TLDs since he is an industry expert and well known in his field). Everything I do on the site is run by him and again, it protects his identity.

It's a no-brainer. If you own hundreds or thousands of domains, why wouldn't you own your own identity? I own mine, and advise you to do the same.

Luckily mine was available to register so it was cheap and easy to obtain.

Think of the things you can waste $8.00 a year on and this is not a waste. As with many examples mentioned owning your own domain name with your personal name can have a million and one uses.

right!

Yes I own my name .com

And I tried back in late 90's to get only my last name and it was 500 bucks. Should have bought it then.

And first name only....um, I probably would have sold it by now

Poor Joe Schmoe. I think a lot of people use that when they want to sign up
somewhere anonymously. I 'may' have done so, perhaps.

There is a real site JoeSchmoe.com, it is a blog, and no google ads. I wonder how much traffic he gets?

Now, if your name is taken already, in .com, then there is a solution:
change your name.

Actually maybe we should all just change our names to Justin Godfrey,
that would be interesting.

I just registered myname.com, it was previously a professional musicians website. I guess he let it expire because when I was renewing some names the other day GoDaddy let me know that it was available to register. I get free advertisement since it has archives from about 2001-2006. Sweet!

I think its important even if you are a nobody could come handy in future , what i have learned from domaining is don't let the moment pass by just do it and i reggd my name before i even got into domaining, if you don't register yet , you might not get to register it for ever , i own myfullname.com myfirstname.asia , myfirstname.mobi , myfirstname.pk think that's all :)

maybe i'd do it, but as I work online, I don't have a need to put my personal info out there. I conduct business in a pretty limited circle so it works out well.

I own my lastname.com, and .net, and .org, and ....

I have one of those last names that is so unusual, I can go and get any tld of it at any time.

The downside is I used my [email protected] for email but the spammers somehow got hold of it. But the same pattern for my wife and son are still safe.

I own my lastname.net .

Thinking about buying firstname&lastname.com just for e-mail & testing purposes, no promotion.

Would really like to own my firstname.com, but in my case that is nearly mission impossible $$$:eek::eek:$$$

It seems like kind of an obvious thing to do, but based on the example in this thread of a domainer here who apparently did not, perhaps not as apparent as one might think.

Yes, I registered my name, my sons' names, my dad's name and even have a site for one of the horses ;)
