Hello my friends,

I have a questions for you:

How much .net, .org, .info worth in comparison to .com

Lets take for example domain name vancouver.com ( because I live here :)

It was sold on sedo for 123k as it was reported on DNJournal.com
http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm
Actually th eprice for the domain was 123k cash + 2 year lease fifty k each ,
so all together we may say the name was sold for 223k.

Ok, so lets say I want to buy .net, how much it might worth, well this name is taken and it used by a company, but lets say it is not used. Like .org and .info
I know info for example was sold for 6k
http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/domainsales/2004-expanded-newtld.htm

As you can see I took on purpose name Vancouver, because this one particular has some sales in different extensions, and they can be
compared. So what do you think? What is the value of other extensions
in comparison to .com if .com is 100 percent?

I think .net = 15 to 20%

others 5 to 10%

I think one of the best .com and .net comparisons was the sales of sex.com and sex.net. sex.com sold for $12 - $14 million, and sex.net sold for $450,000, or between 3.2% - 3.75% of the price of the .com.

A good example to start with.

I agree with DNjet, although in some cases the .org or .info could be worth more than 10% if it suits the extension. For example, a city name with .info, or a medical term with .org might be worth more than 10% of the .com, but probably 20% -25% would be the max.

It depends allot on the name but generally speaking the Sex.com/Sex.net example is a great example of the huge disparity.

it all depends on the desirability of the domain, as well as the domains' keyword.

i don't sex.com is a good example, because it is one of the top keywords online.

for a name like vancouver or any other place, i would think .info would rank next behind .com

for a name like cancer, i think either .org or .info would follow after .com

for many health or medical illnesses, .info is in high demand behind .com along with .org

for casino, poker related names, .net is second only to .com and is becoming the preferred ext for those services imo.

so imo it depends on subject.

Its hard to compare the percentage difference in value in general ... several other domain category factors must be considered ... example: For City Names its possible that the .us or even .info can have more value in principale than a .net ... For Gambling Related names, the .net and .tv extensions definately have more value than the .org version ... For Government Names ... the .org would have more value than the .net or .info, etc....

In general, overall i would rate .net as second best personally from what i have seen used and previous sales reports .. however i dont think the comparison of sex.com/.net is a good one. I think this name is too big and a rarety at 14 million versus 500k. I think you will need a better sampling than this name to do this kind of comparison.

This is basically a given also, but the value of ANY domain depends highly on the major traffic source. If the mass majority of people are going to be finding the domain through other links, email campaigns, or search engines, and not through word of mouth or type-ins, the extension (and even the domain itself) become less important.

Of course once a site gets to a certain point, especially sites prone to being talked about (entertainment, gambling, etc), you will inevitably have a decent amount of word of mouth traffic, so it still holds a certain value.
