I recently acquired an adult domain that gets pretty good traffic, and I'd like to join another site's affiliate program and point the traffic to them.

I'm curious if I should be worried about my local laws concerning obscenity (which I don't know at the moment). I won't be producing my own content. I'll probably only have a warning page with a few non-nude pics and a link to enter my sponsor site.

Would I be in the clear since I am not hosting or producing anything remotely obscene on my site, only linking to it?

Thanks for your input.

When in doubt, put up a warning page.

You're basically making a doorway to a sponsor site? Will there be any photos on your domain? If so, then you need to think about 18 USC 2257.

If you're just doing a forward, i.e. people visit mywebsite.com and it goes to sponsorsite.com -- remember that there is a misleading domain law now around.

Best to use a few warning pages to cover your ass.

I've changed every warning page on my adult domains and included the following paragraph

"Regarding Public Law No: 108-21; Section 2252B refers to adult websites. You are about to enter a website that is for adults, age 21 and older, only. While the domain name does not have 'porn' or 'sex' in it, THIS IS AN ADULT WEBSITE WITH SEXUAL CONNOTATIONS. Capice?? I'm not misleading you into coming here, you know damned well it's an adult web site."

Until the law is challenged or someone is prosecuted, no one knows whether this will be effective or not. But -- you can show a judge that you TRIED to keep out children and TRIED to tell people it was an adult website, and clearly had a warning page on the site.

I recently took 4 AVS feeders down (due to the new Visa regulations) and just made them point to sponsor sites. However, each has a clear warning page to cover my tush.

:)
