Hiya guys and gals.

Just a couple of questions regarding the preregistration of .eu names.

Never before tried to preregister a name, so I am not exactly sure how the whole process works.

I have preregistered a few names with eurodns, and from what I can work out, there is a numbering system that tells you what number you are in regards to others who are trying to preregister the same name. FOr a few I am 1/1 so I assume I am the first who placed a preregi for that name, while others I am 3/5 etc.

How does the process work once the sunrise period for the names has taken place ?? Are you commited to purchase all the names you preregistered ?? Are you allocated only a few or even none ??

Sorry for my ignorance here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

hi, looks like that no one answered you until now.

the "really hardcore" details are here:
http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/pri/en/oj/dat/2002/l_113/l_11320020430en00010005.pdf

shortly:
sunrise 1: european exact trademarks only.
sunrise 2: european exact companynames only.
then landrush. but you need an european (european union) administrative contact, if you don´t have one ask you r registrar.

Answer 1
end of May 2005
Make available the registrar agreement, begin accrediting .eu registrars and publishing a list on the web site

Ongoing
publish job description & begin recruiting staff

June 2005
Publish proposed .eu Registration Policy for comment

Ongoing
develop web site to provide key information in all official EU languages

Aug/Sept 2005
make available the terms and condition of registration in official EU languages - including ADR provisions

Aug/Sept 2005
make registration software available for registrar testing

4th Quarter 2005
start phase 1 of sunrise period (public bodies and holders of trademarks may apply for the corresponding name)

Start of sunrise + 2 months
Start phase 2 of sunrise period (those eligible to apply in phase 1 plus holders of other rights recognised in the national law of a member state may apply for the corresponding name)

Start of sunrise + 4 months
Sunrise period closes and registrations open on a first-come-first-served basis. This could happen between Februar/March 2006
Validation of names applied for during sunrise continues until task completed

Answer 2
European Admin Contact will be no problem. Doing so already for different TLDs.

Answer 3
Final Pricing not available for landrush. If you want a reseller Agreement or want to resever some special names for you personally, please PM me.

Darn, I guess this is the same kind of problem people outside the US faced when the .us extension was designated for US residents only.

Hey Freddy@EuroDNS,

How does your pre-register process work? Is this allowed?

Does this mean if I try to register domains.eu and someone else has already pre-registered it, I am out of luck??

Please fill me in on the details.

Thank you.

The Pre-Registrion of EuroDNS is leagal because we do not ask money for it. Understand it as an reminder service that you will not forget to send us all documents. If you pre-registrer a domain called "domains".eu you need in the first sunrise a European trademark for "domains" or in the second sunrise a european company called "Domains".
If you see at EuroDNS already a pre-registration for Domains, you can still pre-register with EuroDNS and your chance is still very high to get the domain, because there are not so much trademarks called "Domains"

good luck for the sunrise!

Freddy, what about if you are 3/5 and you get the domain during the landrush. Will you do a little auction among the bidders? Or 1/5 gets the name?
Hi, we do not grab Domains during landrush. If a customer want that we register for him domains, he need to pay them before. I think an auction among the bidders would be not fair and in front of Eurid I think it is not leagal.

Question...

Does a US Trademark count as a .EU sunrise trademark name? Wow, I said that wrong, but you get what I mean. Also, do you or anyone else know of any service where someone may get me a EU trademark and address to act as my EU representative so that I would be able to get domains during sunrise?

David.

Hi David!
Sorry, but only trademarks from the european community are allowed, for example Germany, UK, France, Slovakia, Lituania, ....
For a trademark it is already a bit late, but PM me if you interested, I will suggest you a lawyer in barcelona (spain) perhaps he knows a specialist.
An EU representative is no problem, you can be your own, setup for 100 Dollar a company in UK and then you have it, I suggested it already to some other. Looks like that it works good: www.yoffi.net
this company name allows you also to go for sunrise 2. in the second Sunrise company names are allowed to register.
good hunting!

Hi Freddy,
I have one question:
how much will it be the renewal fee for a dot EU domain?

I got this offer from my usual registrar:
"To register and to maintain your .EU
for a whole year it will cost you only 2 Euro + VAT"

I already pre regged some dozen names, the registrar agreement will allow me to use the money I spent to purchase other names/services in case the ones I want are already taken.
Thanks, regards.

Hi click55,

you say it is your usual Registrar? I think with this prices he should be a wizard! Because his buying price is much higher! :) You should ask him to provide you the offer signed on paper, because he can´t do it!

We offer our customer to use the money, that becomes free if a name will be already reged, for something else too. I think this is normal. If someone do not offer this, hmmm, I personally would not reg there.

Hey, but call the registrar and ask him how he can do the price. his buyingprice at the registry is much higher. All Registrars have the same prices! There are no discounts. Ask him if you have to take a hosting for each domain or what ever to get this price! Thats not normal. Belive me!

I am sure you will find someone that will provide you a very competetive price. But 2 Euro is unnormal. Is he Accredited? Whats his name?

Well... its the biggest Italian Registrar, I use it since 7 or 8 years and never had any probs.... maybe the 2 Euro price is just a promo, thats why I was asking you how much will be to renew.
Btw they have very competitive prices for instance unlimited web hosting with unlimited BW and so on is just 25 Euro / year.
I ll PM you the url so you can check.

2 Euro per Domain is for sure possible if someone bundle it with a webhosting or some other costs. thats nothing new. Some other big registrars are doing this since a long time.
