Ah, but what you believe, and what you actually know are two different things.

Ask yourself this: If most good family business names in dot com are taken, what do you suppose the second generation family members (metaphorically speaking) will use?

Then...

Ask yourself this: If you plan to have a "global" presence would use use a ccTLD or a gTLD??? If you said "gTLD" then give yourself an A+, if you said ccTLD...good luck!

Then:

Ask yourself one final question: Do you really think ICANN is going to create another ".biz"??? A name that refers to the digital form of the word "business"

Now do the math:

gTLD+Available Space+Specialized= Pretty darn good name!!

Couldn't agree more. Well stated izopod! You get A+!! :)

but why would someone enter the global marketplace with an extension that sounds so "homebrew" like .biz? You'd think they'd want something a little more professional before taking on the whole world

The extension seem to be working fine for a lot of large companies in Europe; even though it is an abbreviation that resides from the US. So I guess not all think it sounds like "homebrew" :)

By the way, did you get my PM kidkool?

Professional? How would www.Printers.business make www.Printers.biz sound more professional...especially when we are talking 21 century english?? We abbreviate a lot more then we used too!! Trust me. Since the 1970's we've went from... "Coolin out" to just "Chill"...

www.Printers.biz sounds more efficient, alive, and cutting edge. You won't find too many marketers in the near term who won't be using a "biz" domain to market their products. Trust me.

The thing you have to understand is the difference between "professional", and just plain "tacky". www.Gazooba.com was a very tacky name that didn't give you a very confident feeling about their company. That was a dot com.

Printers.biz...Nothing wrong there, a strong generic I might add.

just my perspective...

i think printers.biz is a a great name. However, you will never convince me that the .biz does not sound cheesy. It sounds like something someone would say talking business on his cellphone while going through the drive thru. I do think it works for some laid back industries, but i personally would never consider it.

Hey....if .cc sounds better then why doesn't anyone like webdesigns.cc -- what sounds better, webdesigns.biz or webdesigns.cc :D

Biz means business.. .CC is a coutry code, and a failed attempt at a gTld.

Stay away from .cc shaggy.

Well, if you need to play it safe, then join safe's thinking. With all due respect kid, there will always be the early adopters and the laggards within the domainer ranks.

Good luck.

In any case, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I doubt anyone here would be willing to fork out anything over $100, if that.

Am I wrong?

sure. except i consider most of the .biz, .info speculators to be people who were the laggards and have tried to simulate a new .com because they missed out the first time. only everyone was prepared for it and knew about the release of the new TLD's. The value comes to those who seek out opportunities that others are not aware of. In other words someone out there is on to the *real* next big moneymaker while you are still obsessed with simulating the .com land grab with a new extension (which everyone had the ability and knowledge to pursue). The "early adopters" you speak of are way ahead of the masses who rushed to grab the new TLDs. The new TLD speculators remind me much more of those *other* "early adopters" who invested all their money into ventures like govworks.com and eToys.

That's not to say there isn't some money to be made in resale of great .biz names like this one, but i mainly find this to be due to the slick marketing campaign and the wild card of Europe and Asia's fast growing online presence. Maybe .biz and .info will be Euope's .com (the good with the bad).

exactly! I appraised $400 earlier because I'm willing to pay $400 for it.

to HP, Canon, ...

I'm sure they aren't in the generic domain game.

I'd think you could get $1k for it now without too much trouble and $5k in a year.

Heat:

It seams few agree in their response in exactly for which buyer and for when your appraisal request was for.

Some valuations are for what your domain is worth to other resellers. One reseller seems to have their tongue sticking out of his mouth with his low-ball wish list appraisal. Other valuations are appropriately for what an end-user should expect to pay.

In addition, some appraisals were for a sale in the morning, and others realize YOU MEANT in 2 to 3 years when the market matures.

Mr. Moles showed great insight into the market dynamics with his appraisal of:

$10,000!

$50,000 to HP, Canon or Epson!
Good-luck when they knock on your door.
