I have just started purchasing domains and so far I have hand registered them. I looked at deleted .coms on Expired.net and 90+ % of them look crazy and worthless. I don't know why anyone would register such domains in the first place (unless they think someone will be taken in by such rubbish and buy them).

Should I abandon these options and accept that I will have to buy or bid on (possibly expensive) domain names.

What about Justdropped where I am sent a selection of names every day? At least these names look more enticing.

The best names are usually already registered (unless you maybe come up with really nice ideas). There is also some some high competition in the really good dropping names area (you won't be able to handregister them after they dropped).

It all depends on what you want, and what you may be able to sell afterwards.
You won't get into the "high quality" and "highly searched after" names this way, but if it works for you, it's all good.

Try to not handregister too much domains you will be unhappy with down the road (there are renewals !)

Thanks for the info. I was curious because I looked on FB and people are selling valuable and expensive looking domain names. I wondered how they'd got hold of them in the first place. They certainly haven't hand registered them. Do you think they are willing to risk large sums of money? I don't have a large budget and would be quite happy to make £50 here and there once in a while.
