Why is it ok to post flowery comments in another member's sales thread, and totally frowned on to post any thing remotely negative? What if the so-called negative post is only to contradict the flowery comments made by another? I realize negative posts like "this name sucks" or "that's priced way to high" etc are very poor, and should never be allowed. Don't positive comments that are meant well, but are wrong, hurt the potential buyer? Shouldn't the board protect its members as buyers?

What prompted these questions was a sales thread, where a respected member posted a comment in a sales thread for a great name. The comment had nothing to do with buying the name, it only served to prop up or inflate its value. The problem is the comment is probably false and therefore misleading. It could cause a buyer, even an experienced one, to pay more for the name than it is worth.

I was going to post my contradictory opinion in the sales thread, but I don't have to tell you how many members would have gone for my throat, even if they agreed with what I said. There would have been a posse of "you can't say that in a sales thread, you've ruined his sale" bounty hunters out for blood.

My suggestion is that sales thread "reply" posts, should be limited to offers only. Any questions should be PM'd. Any comments, good or bad, should be kept out.

Cheers,

Sharpy

You don't have to post a "negative" comment, you can ask a direct question of the buyer, and wait for an answer. Any potential customer should be free to do so. The best way to contradict a flower misleading comment is to ask for some definition I think. If it is followed up by more provably misleading information by the owner, then the post could be reported. Where it goes from there may be a note of concern.

The owner did not post the misleading comment, a nother member did. For what reason I don't know. He wasn't selling the name, and appears to have no intention of buying it. Had the owner of the name posted the coment I would have no problem asking him about, or challenging it.

This isn't that big of a deal, I just think the forum should police both sides of sales thread coments. The best way to do that would be not to allow any.
