I don't think they are just having troubles, they've gone from being the best to being just lousy.

Maybe my post was a bit hard on them .... I posted it while I was really upset on missing some nice names I had snapped for a while and was looking forward to developing.

But still, I think the period they are in now is just "let's ride this wave until we see what happens with WLS" and until then I doubt I will be snapping much more.

Pool are clearly dominating.

I think Snap is trying to regroup after losing a couple cornerstone registrars.

I was a little worried but they got me a name yesterday I wanted. USAglobal.com

That is type that BD goes after. Correction, That is the type BD catches.

Pool will be top dog for a while.

Nice one Richard. Gives me hope that some of my remaining Snaps will pan out. I'm down to my last exchange on a lot of them. :'(

I tend to agree with you, but I'm not sure why. Their bidding system has nothing to do with drop-catch success rate, except allowing them to aquire more registrars with all the cash they seem to be raking in. But right now they seem to have substantialy less registars than SnapNames catching for them. So why is there catch rate of good names so high right now. Is it their script? Luck?

Bidding system = more money = more registrars, better software, better people, and so on.

I've lost two not so great names in the past two days to namewinner.

My stab at snapnames must have worked. I just got a name! As mediocre as it is, hopefully it's telling me that they are getting back on track!

Yeah Snapnames seems to be sucking a lot lately. Hopefully they can rebound today, cause I've had a snap on a domain for like 6 months and it finally dropped today. No email yet, so probably not, but "you never know"...keeping my fingers crossed.

They missed out on a notsogood name yesterday. It was a long 2 word domain that really wasn't all that great. enom got it.

Snap Names is still very much in the game. But the competition today is greater than ever. It was not hard for Snap to be so successful as they were been before, considering the small amount of drop catchers that existed back then and the limited resources they had compared to Snap. But now you have Pool and BuyDomains competing at the same level and it will of course diminish the success ratio of Snap Names.

For at least a year, any time I had a Snap on a name that I rated at 9.0 on my 10 point scale for domains, BD would end up taking it. Names that I rated at 8.5 a year ago I would have a 50% chance of beating BD. Recently, I have gotten almost no 8.5 names. Mostly, they are now being taken by pool. When I go for the pool, the auction takes the cost to $500 to $1500. This is not good considering that I used to have a good chance at picking them up for $40 to $70. Bring on WLS.

I still use snapnames, and just the other day I got a reasonably good one.

To be honest, Im staying clear of Pool as Im still not entirely convinced they arent rigged to automatically go to auction.

That is probably true. What registrar will stay with Snap and keep registering FreeRingtones.com for a few dollars when they could get a percentage of the $20,000 auction price?
++++++++++++++

The registrar that wants to make money from registration #0 forward, without investing the millions of dollars necessary to develop technology similar to, and compete with, Snap's.

Snap is still pretty darn good, but yea, they miss more names now than before. I find myself exchanging for SnapBack credits more frequently now. Maybe they will try to beef up their service (I hope).

Pool came out of the gate weak, but they are running very strong now. Same with GoDaddy, which is getting pretty decent, a great value.
