Hello all.

I am i need of some funds at the moment. About $5,000 - $10,000 USD

I need the funds to market a website I have been working on, as well as to live off. Additional funds will be used to reinvest in domains - I am restructuring the types of domain which I invest in.

The market, in my opinion is not particularly liquid at the moment.

I have contacted end users for all of the below domains on many an occasion, and not had much luck. There is of course merit in holding the domains until end users in said niches perhaps realise the value of good domains. Many of the names however are .nets and are less desirable to the .com

If in some cases I were selling the .com, then I doubt I'd have any problem selling them.

So.. I was looking at the optimal way to realise the maximum value for a given domain such that I can raise the money needed. ONce I have that $10,000 I am set so it is seemingly uneccesary to sell any more names (potentially under value) if I do not need to.

I do not like SEDO. I do however like NameJet and I have also looked at Flippa.

I spoke to the general manager over at Namejet and he is happy to sell the domains. We have near enough agreed on the following reserves:

Timber.net - $3500

Scenery.org - $1500

Mining.net - $3500

Revision.net - $2250

Quests.net - $1500

MONH.com - $750

LOBH.com - $750

Anfield.com - $1500

Apnoea.net - $350

Causes.net - $750

Damages.net - $750

Deflation.net - $750

Gohan.com - $1500

I suppose you set a reserve at the price at which you would be happy to sell the domain. In a few cases the above prices are below my cost. In a few cases I think to the right end user these are they could fetch $xx,xxx. Saying that however my results have not been great and I suppose i need to be a little more realistic. Furthermore a reserve is a reserve, and these COULD sell for much much more.

So my first question is what are peoples thoughts on these domains, their reserves, and their potential to sell?

My next question was Flippa. Although primarily a website marketplace I have seen people have some good success over there. It also seems a little more open than NameJet in that were I to contact end users and say "This name is on Flippa" they be more likely to participate than over at NameJet. The total costs/commissions are also relatively lower, but I have no problem paying more for better exposure.

What are peoples thoughts on Flippa as an alternative?

Thanks
Thomas

Publicly listing reserves for domains you intend to sell won't get you better prices. In fact, when you do list them, you're advised to URL-forward them and use WHOIS shield. Domains that are 'faked' to be expired get more bids.

It has nothing to do with intentionally "faking" a domain to look expired. Anyone who knows anything about domaining can tell if a name is in expired status or from a private listing.. not to mention the private ones will likely have reserves. Regardless though, it is true from my experience that the truly expired names get a lot more bids.. I'm not sure why that is though.. perhaps whatever tools/feeds most domainers are using show the "expired-rgp" far more in advance? It would certainly be helpful and beneficial for reserve listings to know how the other ones get so much more attention and bids.

By the way if you are in need of funds you'd be better off listing as "no reserve" or at least not posting the reserves publically. More often then not your reserves are a bit high and won't be met.. just being honest. If you want to sell them pick a reserve that you think is slightly low to start with and then cut that number in half ;) You'll sell more that way though.. remember auction buyers want some margin, they're not end-users. Best of luck on your sales!

You'll be surprised how many can't tell a non-expired domain and an expired apart. NJ also does some 'funky' status changes to domains at eNom and NetSol, making them appear expired. It's part of the marketplace magic. The best way to get more $$$$ is to invite third parties to an open auction. And yes, set reserves unless you want some nasty surprise.

Thanks for the insights/thoughts.

I suppose this leads onto the second part of the question in that although I have no personal experience with the platforms, FLIPPA seems more open to third parties. If an end user wanted to bid I'd imagine that flippa comes across as being more open and easy to use.. Thoughts?

just a question
to sell domains at namejet you have to have domains at netsol or enom?
if wrong let me know how to list some there. sold some at snapnames, big 20% commish but got a few sold, pretty happy with service
if thats the case re; nj , its 2013, not 1995, and 99% of best domains on planet are not at those registars anymore
