Depends on the time frame you are looking at. If you need to sell in the very near future, then of course .us is a bit of a handicap because it is the newest extension and not well known among the buying public. However, if you are looking out 2-5 years your chances for appreciation look very good to me, assuming you have bought strong root words or terms.
I buy .com .net and .org for today's sales, and .us and .info with the hope of a solid long term gain. Since the latter two are new extensions you can pick up much better words and terms than you can find in the older extensions. I just cannot warm up to .biz no matter how hard I try, though others like it for the long term too.
