Rick Schwartz is on the warpath. In an exclusive interview for DN Journal's monthly newsletter previewing the Sept. 23-26 T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference in New York, Schwartz laid into cyber squatters, PPC companies, registrars and even "show fatigue". Find out why he has taken off the gloves.

Great! Just what we all need, our own self appointed industry guru pointing fingers and "calling out" fellow domainers, I am really just about tired of hearing him blabber.

I've been starting to lean towards development but even then it's still not much better than parking since even though there is no middle man, you probably get paid the same since Google takes a larger slice of your pie.

The problem here is GOOGLE, they are greedy bastards and they have been tightening the noose on our income to boost their own, pure and simply put. (which is why I don't park with them)

Love the tombstone :D

But I think Rick is right. It's time for domainers to lock and load and take no prisoners!

Many companies are doing this right now. Keeping more money for the higher ups and giving less to the people who actually build up the companies.

But I think Rick is right. It's time for domainers to lock and load and take no prisoners!

I agree. This 'ish has been going on too long and the industry seems to have been looking away from it. Sure, many domainers complain about the fraud, cybersquatting, and cheating but no one else seems to care (probabaly because they still get money from the cheaters).

Sure, there will be bad eggs but if the people who actually keep this industry going (domainers and web developers) stand up to it, then maybe things will change.

But, where should we start?

Google's carrot and stick routine is an absolute masterpiece. They're everything I love and hate about the web. I passionately hate them, yet I can't imagine life without some of their tools. It's rough!

Alot of people don't realize that without the typos and the ppc rev that strongly help to support the aftermarket domain industry an entire revenue stream would be lost and the trickle down implications would be huge from a very large circle of money that would cease to exist and is currently being re-distributed on domain purchases and usage of services, registrars, etc.

I don't like TM squatters either. But, look what happens if the typos aren't monetized by domainers - Microsoft, Verizon, Comcast, Dell, etc get the proceeds throught their browser error pages. These companies are the biggest TM squatters that exist by using this mechanism.

Great coverage as always by dnjournal.

Sure Rick Schwartz is on the warpath. The chickens are coming home to roost for the PPC business.

That's why R. Schwartz is showing us the higher road by example. Check out www.jerkoff.mobi for the path to domainer righteousness, courtesy of R. Schwartz. We all know a site highlighting buttplugs and trannys is much more noble than your average registrar or PPC company.

He's right - but he could go further, especially where click fraud is concerned. The first line of defense with click fraud, is the parking companies; and who ever heard of a parking company prosecuting someone for it?

So no use preaching to genuine domainers, because there is absolutely nothing we can do about it - it's between the parking co's and the fraudsters.

TM names are another story with an amount of grey area around it.

Leading by example indeed.
I think he's an hypocrite and he should practice what he preaches if he's expecting us to take him seriously.
Do we really 'need' a leader like that to represent us ?

The <errealestate.com> site is controlled by Rick Schwartz, the administrative, technical and billing contact for the Domain Name. Mr. Schwartz claims on the home page of <erealestate.com> to own over 3,000 domain names, many of which incorporate famous trademarks and trade names.

Mr Schwartz has received publicity as a result of the large number of domain names that he has acquired and sold. According to an article in The Business Journal, more than half of the domain names owned by Mr. Schwartz are "dirty". They include such generic names as <dick.com>, <orgy.com>, <porno.com>, <***.com> and <horny.com>.

Mr. Schwartz has also a group of domain names incorporating famous trademarks with the word "SUCKS" appended to them. These include, for example, <cbs-sucks.com>, <bellatlantic-sucks.com>, <gm-sucks.com>, <mci-sucks.com>, <motel6sucks.com>and <nbcsportsucks.com>.

Like him or not, Rick's writings are going to make you THINK a just a little more about some important topics that are changing rapidly in our industry. It is good to spark debate and challenge the industry to develop new and better products and monetization ideas for the future.

He's not?

If you cut down tm and typo traffic, that would reduce parking income by 80%, if not more. Do you think the various parking companies would take that loss?

But not everyone depends on parking income to survive in this industry... the smarter ones moved first and fast, far far away.

Agree.
I'm so tired of the arrogance of this man.
He said all time "I'm the one, I'm the first, I'm the king, I'm the guru, I'm the leader, I'm the right and the rest of the world is wrong"
STOP!!!!!!!
Rick Schwartz IS NOT THIS INDUSTRY, HE'S ONLY A MAN IN THIS INDUSTRY.
Like me or you.
