Mumsreturningtowork.com
A good site for mothers who want to return to work. A little bit of a stretch but who would have thought Vehix.com would be a hit? How about eHarmony.com? eSurance.com?

Psp-jailbreak.net
PSP cheats / hacks site?

Miami-sushi.com
A directory for sushi restaurants in Miami (and there are a lot of them in the area!)

Miami2anchorage.com
Travel site for people in south Florida who want to take an Alaskan / north Pacific vacation / cruise.

Unless it's something like a bunch of random characters or something a toddler would type, just about any domain could have development potential.

I disagree. Of course those domains make sense somehow but they are horrible based on the domain itself and the niche they are targeting.

I just have to jump in on this discussion because I feel exactly the same way about some of the names I see offered for sale on this forum that get comments like 'great domain.' As has been pointed out above, names domainers think great might not rock the boat of ordinary folk. There's a whole world out there, in fact, that never heard of domaining - I got to 60 without knowing about it. I had bought names in 2001, but for development purposes. I was surprised to get offers for some of them, and wondered why anyone thought I would want to sell something I had taken so long to think up and find.

Apart from this, many successful business websites have quite long names - surely memorability is more important than a very short name that doesn't stick in the mind? Take a well-known phrase, say a line from a nursery rhyme - people aren't going to mix that up. But a name with two keywords, XXXxxx: if I go to put it into the address bar, I might recall it as xxxXXX, and end up in a completely different place from the one I wanted to. So where does having two short keywords get you now? PPC isn't the only reason for buying a domain name. There are probably as many reasons as there are people registering names.

You are right. I don't have many hyphenated domains in my portfolio anyway...

I have already sold most of them for $XXX to $X,XXX, with a decent ROI on each of them.

What domains have you sold, if any?

LOL .... I've regged some real gems. In fact I've won the monthly award twice at reggingdrunk.com.

Not to say these are a product of drinking. Sometimes we get an idea that requires some research.

i.e.

TeenAlcoholismtreatment[]com
This is a PPC revenue parked names.

The name is long and has little traffic but the advertisers bids are/was in the $25 -$30 range.
(when I bought the name) so the ROI was great.

The same applies to names like these. They are long and seemingly ridiculous but have
huge PPC ad values. And with such a targeted or user specific search term the CTR is high.

CulinarySchoolsinGeorgia[]com
This is a PPC revenue parked names.

CulinarySchoolsinNewYorkCity[]com
This is a PPC revenue parked names.

That being said .... I agree that there are some crazy names being regged/dropped all the time.
Huge blocks of them in multiple extensions. They look like lists of automated regges.

One might wonder if some of these are names being tasted/grabbed by front running registrars
and name tasting services.

IMO in doesn't matter the length.longtail domains are the move right now because they're targeting very specific keywords and you can monopolize those users when they look it up on google.with proper seo if you get your long keyword domain on the first page of google at the very least #8 or 9 the traffic would be massive.

Some names out of thousands just like them, recently tasted and kept by godaddy & enom.

Like the saying goes, there's more than meets the eye. or something like that.
