Raoul, don't be a smartass, if Russia.com makes $30k/month+, then it is a bargain, just on a different level than most of us are used to. Russia close to bankrupt or not is irrelevant, we are talking about the largest country with the most expensive capital in the world, and the most billionaires.

my vote for the buyer is a company like a-1.

A smart newspaper or such would have been nice though.

Here's hoping no google ads in this names future...

I was not speculating that the domain is not worth the money or not. I just find it strange that some people say "bargain" asif they have laying arround millions to buy domains.

If the domain is worth it especially if it's already making $30k/month+, there are enough companies that can come up with that sort of capital.

Just because something may be a bargain, doesn't mean everyone has the capital.

Well, first I don't think you have a database of DNF users with their USD savings :) Second, a bargain is a bargain, if a stamp is valued at $5 and it is sold for $2 it was a bargain, but same goes for Russia.com. Or you mean a person who doesn't have $1m+ in cash can not have an opinion?

I missed it was at all for sale... Otherwise I would have tried to get it, I think.
But I never even considered checking if it could be bought... :(

$1k a day. Must be achievable.

Last time I spoke to a the owner of this domain name on the phone about two years ago. He wanted 3 million for the name, and it was making money. I think this domain name sold for a lot less than it's worth. I agree with Rooul though, most of us can't afford to spend 1.5 mil :)

If everyone based their opinions only by what they could afford, that would pretty much shut down the appraisal section.

2006. The good old 2006, when I was still good for 800kus$ cash on the bank

2009 - Russia nearly bankrupt, even since today "there is no limit" Dubai

Its good the domain market is not paid with virtual bids, Seeing the reactions in this thread, I must assume it was a bargain, every replier was willing to pay 1.5 million, "if they had money"

Riiiight. You got me there, buddy.

I'm pretty sure you understand that I was trying to drive a point by quoting that article.

Let me put it in a different light for you.

How many pieces of Russian Real Estate would YOU be able to sell off a domain of this caliber...[besides the multitude of other products/services]

Your patronizing remarks about 'virtual bids' and '...if they had the money' really tells a lot.

BTW, I 'would've paid 10 mil if I had it'.

Cheers.

... I agree with Rooul though, most of us can't afford to spend 1.5 mil :)

We're talking about investing, not spending. Investing in a printer that spits out sh'tloads of cash day and night.

Can you afford it now?

:)

Russia.com....One of the world's great domains...

If people have paid $5m+ for Toys.com....$3m for Vodka.com....$9.9m for Fund.com....etc etc....then, you gotta believe $1.5m for the domain for a great country is NOT a lot...

If domains have any value at all, then this is a great buy, imo...

...and 16mil for insure. All of those are great measuring sticks. Plus, those are NOT prices paid by domainers. All of those are endusers.

Domainers criticizing domainers is a laughable thread. And for domainers to think that only a domainer would buy Russia.com is also laughable.

Ooo...gee. I wonder if he can make that money back with parked.com.

Yeah, let's park that sucker.

FWIW, it only appraises for $610,000 USD on Estibot.

In my opinion, the domain is worth way over what it sold for. It could be a travel site, a blog, a news site, the Russian government could even buy it just to hold long-term!

This will pay itself off in just a few years, not to mention a substantial increase in value.

Russia dot com is a parked/lander for GoDaddy.

Folks, if I'm spending 1.5m to park something, I'll buy a house to park a Ferrari.
