this big guys have a lot of money and can drop a crazy amount any given day for the right names... this are good sound investments in my opinion. some will hold on to names forever looking for that one big fish to reel in......others will develop em sooner or later.

Yeah, Vaxis are well known for their development :cheeky:

Moreover, for that amount of money they could have picked up about 10 same or similar quality one word .nets right here on this board, thus diversifying their portfolio, all the while increasing the chance of making a great sale, and lessening their overal risks.

It's definitely strange how none of these "Hong Kong" based players don't pick up any bargains here, yet throw money left and right elsewhere.

lol, well time is on their side... it's never too late to restrategize and begin to develop either.

i guess they had to have this one... they could easily afford it so they went after it hard... why not.

i dont know of that many serious domainers from hong kong but i do know a couple of this big players are infact roaming around in this forum as well as a couple others... just cause you dont dont know about em doesnt mean they arent here.

makes sense to lay low... doesnt it? :)

2761 skateboard.com ...What about TM on this name, if any?

No TM issues. "skateboard" is generic.

The question I have is why do people let domains like these slip threw? Why not try and sell them?

It's one thing to roam around here, but another to do business here. I follow plenty of substantial sales and trades from this board, even when the dust settles, and I find that none of them at any point afterwards end up being identified as Vaxis or Ult in the whois.

Yes, the time is on their side but these guys are not developers. They never were, and never will be, and here's why:

A real development of your flagship properties (other than half-assed jobs that many small domainers do) needs a true commitment, and it costs time and money while bringing no guaranties of any sort, especially with .nets other than you will be building traffic for your .com counterpart, and especially when it's obvious from a mile away that you're not passionate about your subject.

Vaxis inventory is too vast and too deep for them to start contemplating anything other than what they're doing now.

i'm sure this "big players" will commit 200% because there would be a lot in stake... their main business is to make money..... if ppc doesn't work out or will slow down for whatever reasons you can rest assured that they will get serious and put together some really nice money generating sites. it's not that hard....

Not quite sure about this. Conventional wisdom, would be to come up with a new commercial venture with a viable business plan and then to develop a website around the business. Only, in the final stage would a decision on which domain to invest as URL become essential. Obviously, you need a domain that is going to give the business the best chance of success and the amount that you are should be prepared to invest for a good domain should reflect the likely returns from the underlying business. Frankly, launching a business in specialist area, in which you may have little or no knowledge, to develop a site in order to try and put life back into a dead donkey of a domain, seems to me to be a really perverse strategy.

Clearly domain development is a field in itself, but is probably best done by developers who build a business working for bonifide companies trying to increase exposure and sales using the internet as a tool. Domain speculation is totally different line of business. It is doubtful, that failed speculators are going to get rich by developing domains they should have dropped.

Domains that are developed without a sound underlying business generally end up looking like some kind of amateur blogg, and probably undermine the potential of any half decent domain.
