SnapNames Live Auction.

A manager of SnapNames has been contacting me from about 6 months for a domain name of mine for their first live auction in January at DomainFest.

I accepted their invitation.and in December i sent them a signed agreement confirming my domain for their live auctions.it was counter signed by Ron Sheridan and sent to me also.so both of us mutually agreed to auction of one of my domain.

Last night i receive a mail saying that the domain was not accepted and now they are asking me to sign-up for their Daily selling program.

Ron Sheridan and his team have been truly unprofessional and failed to keep up their word and agreement.:veryangry:

Legal Issue: Ron Sheridan( Director Business Development.) has breached the agreement.

Let me know what you think about this.

For those who submitted names that didn't make the list, you still have a chance to get in. Just reg some of the names that did make it. temporaryhairloss.com is still open, or realestatereposession.com or a few others that passed muster.

How is this possible? are people just throwing names at them and hoping to go backwards and catch them if they are accepted?

I dont know about this one personally or whether it would still make it to the auction since we did not submit it, but for $10, what the hell, Lots of advertisers. There seems to be quite a few on the list at a quick glance, it really is unreal.

We received emails from them as well, both accepting and denying names, it seems as though they were automated form letter responses. I would recommend that you try contacting them and reminding them of the contractual arrangement you share and see how they respond to that first. Maybe since the received such a large response with names (obviously some names which had never even been regged to begin with!) they felt the name did not live up to the other recent submissions. Seems very odd if they hounded you for 6 months and then rejected it.

Aren't those that submit these names without owning them breaking the rules/law of somesort? I guess there are so many names flying around there isn't much time to actually verify ownership, much less actual registration to begin with.

Yeah, reposessedrealty.com, mrizona.net.....

and more are un-registered. Matter of fact, those two have NEVER been regged before. :uhoh:

Auction selection is a strange thing. With domain names being as powerful as they are, we're bound to eventually see new venues ... ideally with some corporate inroads and marketing ability. An enhanced service like this will require a higher %, but that's not a problem when they produce results.

Agree, auction selection tis very strange. Seems some influence and favoritism is often shown, not just towards clients, but in favor of one extension over the other. Of course, the auctions belong to whomever is running them so it's eventually up to them as to what they want to sell. No problem with that, as it will stimulate other venues to take up the flag on the others.

Don't know if a higher % commission would be justified, as some of the rates charged now seem over the top, looking at the lack of $ put toward actual promotion of the goods being sold.

Seems one big flaw with these auctions is they all seem too incestual. Not many real end users participating, unless you count sales to those in our little industry moving towards actually developing something.

They must have just run a script that picks out names with commercial keywords in them and just ignores everything else except short names. Its hard to believe a human would compile a list this lame.

Of the two names I submitted, they chose the worst one. I just hope the buyers are as clueless as whoever (or whatever) is choosing the names.

i don't think the people running these auction houses are too savy... As a famous investor once said "if stock brokers really new what they were doing they would be buying stocks not selling them" I can only think the same is true with many of these agents at auction houses.

Sounds about right to me Doc.......I wouldn't mind paying a higher commission if I thought they would get the message to relevant corporate/business end users as well.

I always get a kick out of these auction places telling you to put a "Lower reserve". I would have no problem with that if I thought they were going to be promoting it outside of the domain industry and there were going to be a lot of people interested in the genre of the name. But if there are 2 interested in the nature of your name and they are in the domain industry you will not be getting a true market value offer. Someone please let me know when you see an ad on Business Network telling viewers that they can "log on to BlahBlah Auction to bid for that domain name they have been looking for for there business". Until then the auctions will remain the same and will always be, as Doc says, "incestual".
