Well, I'm not sure trashing an auction before it's even happened is going to help much. I've had plenty of good names passed on for other auctions and didn't start complaining publicly.

And now that I have a couple of names picked for this auction - I wonder if such negativity about it on a well-known board hurts my chances of selling them at a decent price...considering it's domainers who apparently the only people who will bid anyway. Anyway, I guess I have no choice but to wait and see :worried:

Hi Macy...
I don't think I trashed the auction...I stated conditions I would like to see changed that would give me confidence to participate...

The fact that it is usually only domainers was what I thought should change. They charge a healthy commission to sell your names and I think they should use some of that to bring the auction to the attention of those in the business world...via some mainstream advertising...

Congrats on getting your names selected....:)

Jaydub - I wasn't singling you out, but thanks for your response (and the congrats). I was really just posting my thoughts b/c this auction isn't the only one to receive negative comments...and I do wonder if it has any negative consequences on the overall perception of them, at times. Hopefully, I'm mistaken and that's not the case

And yes, I agree that positive changes are definitely needed.

I created this thread in the legal section as snapnames failed to keep their contract with me .it's not because my domain was not accepted.

Your domains will be surely sold if it's worth a buy and that does not depend upon this thread.

ET: email me directly (kjel-at-snapnames.com) with details and we'll get this sorted out tomorrow.

Re the ‘phantom’ names: when a potential Live Auction Seller gives us a name for consideration he or she also affirms that the name is owned by that person and is and will be available for us to sell at auction. Whoever submitted those ‘phantom’ names previously mentioned obviously lied to us during the submission process. While I know we would have caught it before the actual auction, even having those names in the list at this point is embarrassing.

We’re new at live auctions and are still ironing out some kinks. For instance we erred I think in allowing unlimited submissions. More than 100,000 names were submitted, many more than we expected or were prepared for. Given the subjectivity-factor in domain name valuation and the volume of domain names involved I don’t doubt that errors were made, both on the inclusion and exclusion side. I’m sorry if anyone feels like we missed a great opportunity with your name or if we included a clunker – I’m sure that on at least several occasions here we did both. Shoot me an email at the address above if you want to discuss any aspect of the submission process (or for that matter anything else SnapNames related) in more detail.

Devil Dog: Haven't seen an email yet. Please try kjelh-at-snapnames.com in addition to the other email address mentioned above. Theoretically both go to my primary inbox, but as I'm sure you know in real life theory and practice occasionally differ . . .

Hope to hear from you soon.

Looks like Kjel is on this. Contract law is very complex, but sounds like you may have a viable claim. I see offer, acceptance, and if the document talks about financial terms and/or you agreeing to give them exclusive rights during the term of the auction, what is called consideration. Those are the basics you need for a contract.

That's the very simplistic answer. Again, much else could play into it, but it looks like SnapNames is on it now. Good luck!

To clear one thing up:

I submitted marizona.net in error (was supposed to be myarizona.net). I asked Jonathan to take it out and he did - it shows up as "not accepted" in my account. Strange that it shows up on this preliminary list.

This being the "preliminary" list allows them to trim out the errors.
