I decided to leave pool since they started using that stupid new auction system. I am trying out snap... but they sure suck! I backordered several domains, and each day I see other registars catching them. Not even one single domain has been caught by snap.

Any other company you recommend?

Yeah... they finally caught a domain I was backordering, and in 2 minutes it has gone up to over $600... damn :)

2 days left, I wonder how high will it go

Can't blame them that you don't want to pay the prices.

It is inconsequential who catches the name today, the question really is can you afford to outbid the rest.

In order to maximize revenue registrars are trying to catch the top names which will produce the highest revenue. Knowing statistics about high bidders, win ratio, and pre-bid prices helps determine demand. Basically you are blackmailed into using Pool if you want a domain. If Pool does go for the smaller names more agressively they can fool people into bidding against themselves. You can snub your nose all day but if you don't suck it up and bend over you won't get the name.....someone else will.

Very true, Clemzon.

Although, I think Pool's last greedy move will severely hurt their business. It might eek out a few more dollars from the big spenders, but I think they are going to lose a lot more business over the next couple of months.

And, that's risky with WLS stalling for who knows how long.

I know that I, personally, have only bought one name from Pool in the last 2 months --it was in the new auction system but I only got it because it went for $80 bucks.

I only spent about $2,000/month over at Pool before, but now I'm at $40/month. That $2,000/month may have been small potatos to them, but if there are 100 others like me that do the same; that will really hurt -even the pool monster. ;)

Cheers,

Wesley

:cheeky:

The bigger they are; the harder they fall.

By the way, does anyone really BELIEVE pool's email when they say "this will curb last minute bidding" and "is in the interest of the buyers"??

I mean c'mon. It really means "now, you have to tell us the most you are willing to pay and THEN we'll start the auction -which will still end with last minute bidding! muwhahahaha"

Please tell me no one believe their crap! ;)

Cheers,

Wesley

Bring on WLS!!

I used to share that view (and may again someday), but for now... I prefer the auction system using snaps and enom.

The reason being that I do not have the resources to place WLS b-o's on many great names before Ult and BFD beat me to it. And, I have a feeling that by the time I even get the email stating WLS is live; all the good slots will be gone.

I think the market sucks now, but it will be even worse with WLS.

There is no way to win unless you have a nearly unlimited budget.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - WLS. Is. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Chris,

Why are you so certain of this?

Why are you so certain of this?

Why is a general sure of enemy troop strength? Why is a realtor sure of trends in home prices? Why is a banker sure of interest rates?

It's what I do, every day.

All these know about today. Ask them about the future and they don't know anything.
And the future is very close in the domain names business.
