Afternic Start the Year with a Strong Domain Portfolio: Essential Tasks for Afternic Sellers

As 2025 begins, it’s crucial for domain sellers at Afternic to take stock of their portfolios to ensure they’re ready for the coming year. A healthy portfolio provides an important foundation as a domain name seller, and the beginning of the year offers a valuable opportunity to check some of the basic aspects of your Afternic portfolio.

With help from our expert Afternic account managers, here’s a comprehensive checklist of tasks to perform at Afternic, along with guidance on how to execute each one.



1. Check Buy it Now Prices


Setting the right Buy it Now (BIN) prices for your domains is essential for capturing impulse buys and attracting serious buyers. Despite this, some domain names at Afternic remain unpriced. End the year by making sure that your Afternic listings include a Buy it Now price for optimum exposure.

Along with adding pricing to your domain names, now is an excellent time to assess your BIN prices to either increase or decrease them. Here’s how to review and adjust your BIN prices:

  • Head to your portfolio: Log into your Afternic account and navigate to your Portfolio page.
  • Review Pricing: Look through the BIN prices for each domain. Consider market trends and recent sales data to ensure your prices are competitive.
  • Adjust as Necessary: Use the footer toolbar to select domains and click on “Pricing” to update BIN values. A well-priced domain can contribute to an increase in the likelihood of a sale.



2. Check Your Landers


Your domain’s landing page is the equivalent of a for sale sign in your yard – it lets visitors know that your domain name is for sale. Checking that your domains are resolving to a sale lander is an important year-end check.

Afternic’s sale landers utilize GoDaddy’s recognized branding to give your domains the best chance of selling. If you’re not using them already, here’s a quick guide to get set up:

  • Point to Afternic: Verify that your domains’ nameservers are set to ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com.
  • Select a Lander: Navigate to your Portfolio page and use the “Bulk Lander Update” option to see which landers your domains are using. Select the most appropriate option – Request Price, Buy it Now, Custom Lander, or Cashparking—based on your sales strategy.



3. Enable Lease to Own


Lease to Own (LTO) can make your domain names more accessible to buyers, contributing to an increase in performance for your portfolio, and providing you with recurring revenue. We also know that Lease to Own has a 35% higher average sales price, compared with Buy it Now domains.* To enable LTO:

  • Select Domains: On your Portfolio page, choose domains you want to enable for LTO.
  • Enable Lease to Own: Click on “Pricing” in the footer toolbar and select “Enable” under the Lease to Own option. Choose the maximum number of months for the LTO term, ensuring it aligns with your pricing structure.



4. Check Minimum Offer Values on Custom Lander


If you’re utilizing our Custom Lander and you’ve set up your lander to display “Make an Offer”, it’s important to review your domain’s minimum offer value to ensure they’re aligned with your pricing strategy.

You can adjust the minimum offer values for your domain names through your portfolio page, either individually using the “Minimum Offer” column, or in bulk by selecting multiple domain names and clicking the “Pricing” option in the footer toolbar.



5. Download Invoices for Domain Sales


Last year, Afternic introduced automated invoices for domain name sales to speed up the management of your domain name transactions.

The platform offers payout transmittals for BIN sales, and both payout transmittals and invoices for LTO sales. Here’s how to access them:

  • Access Sales Records: Navigate to the “Sales” section of your Afternic account.
  • Download Invoices: Click on each transaction to download invoices. This will help you maintain accurate financial records and prepare for tax season.



6. Reassess Default Settings


Did you know that Afternic allows you to choose default settings for Lease to Own and lander selection for every new domain name that you add to the platform? Revisiting, or editing these settings for the first time may be valuable.

  • Choose Your Lander: By default, Afternic will display the Request Price lander, but you can choose a different default lander for newly added domains. If you’re choosing Afternic’s new Custom Lander, you can also choose the purchase settings that show by default: BIN, LTO, or Make Offer.
  • Enable LTO: Here, you can enable LTO for any new domain names.



7. Clean Up Listings


Maintaining an organized portfolio is crucial for effective management. Take the following steps to clean up your listings:

  • Process In Review Domains: Go through your portfolio to identify domains marked as “In Review” and reach out to our support team, or your account manager to process these domain names.
  • Remove Sold Domains: While we’ll automatically remove any listings sold via Afternic, you may have made sales elsewhere that are still active in your Afternic portfolio.



8. Compare Listed vs. Owned Domains


Finally, verify that all domains you own are listed for sale on Afternic:

  • Compile a List: Gather a list of domains you currently own.
  • Cross-Reference with Afternic: Compare this list against your Afternic portfolio to ensure all domains are listed.
  • Add Missing Domains: If any domains are missing, promptly list them to maximize exposure and sales opportunities.



By following these steps, you can ensure your domain portfolio is in top shape for the year ahead. Here’s to 2025!
