Yesterday a new user signed up to another domain forum attempting to sell the domain cool.org (they also sign up here but do not list the domain).

I am a staff member on another forum which I am not going to name due to obvious rules etc however the following is a brief of what has happened. THIS IS 100% CONFIRMED. I have personally spoken with Jenny Cool.

This domain has been stolen.

The events that led upto this are as follows:-

Jenny Cool (the original owner of the domain) posts on her twitter account that she is locked out of her Gmail account (the whois for cool.org was her Gmail account).

coolorg attempts to register using an email address for this domain

cooldotorg registers on the forum using a Gmail account and posts an appraisal thread for cool.org as well as a sales thread.

Several people report the thread as suspicious.

Jenny Cool updates her twitter account again to say that her account is still locked out.

cool.org changes status to transfer pending and the whois information changed.

I send an email to jenny's email at cool and receive the following response:-

Dear Peter,

I have sold cool.org a couple of days ago.

I no longer own it.

Thanks for your concern though.

Regards,

Cool, Jennifer (PhD)

The header of the email show it is sent from Kuwait (the potential thief logged in once from a Kuwait IP as well as several AOL ip's).

5 minutes ago Jenny Cool updates her twitter account with the following :-

God I hope they're just after the 4-letter domain and that it's nothing personal. Huge thanks @glennon and @drcheezie for your alerts.

Spoke with Jenny Cool on the phone personally and have been advised coolstudios.com has also been stolen.

DO NOT BUY THESE DOMAINS.

I had also disabled this new users account here yesterday as soon as it was brought to our attention and he/she didn't get a chance to post here.

Thanks again Peter!

Nothing wrong with mentioning NamePros (thread here), these old rules have been removed a long time ago. I think when it comes down to nailing those domain thieves, we need to share information seamlessly.

Transparency is key to curbing domain thefts and profiteering from stolen domains.

Just to keep you all updated the domain seems to be back in the hands of the proper owner now. The status has been changed back to:-

Status: CLIENT DELETE PROHIBITED, CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED, CLIENT UPDATE PROHIBITED

And the whois is back to the proper owners.

Thanks for heads up, and good work everyone.

I see you say they're from Kuwait? I would imagine thieves are dealt with very seriously over there? Hope it's possible for authorities to maybe track him. we live in hope
