My issue with the media argument is that is their job.

Just as it is their job to report how much domainers abuse the system by regging and redirecting, TM issues, and - yes- cybersquatting.

I have yet to read or hear a heart felt tale of a do gooder domainer in the media.

In the end, the media wins by playing into the hands of the lawmakers who play into the hands of the consumer.

Trying to do battle against mainstream media is futile.
I have a site up actually right after I reg www.swinefluworldwide.com
Right now I'm trying to put up some articles.
I will put some helpful articles but I will also put up some ads?
Do you think it still is terrible? I think this is better than having it parked.

I would say a site is 100% better than parking just in appearances - and I do not mean that from a domainers' perspective.

I regged this name today and within 2 hours had a site.

It is all about intent.

Putting ads on it will not be a terrible thing. Perhaps ads associated with flu prevention will pop up. Stuff like

Tamaflu (an over the counter med)
Surgical Mask (something to coffee mouth & nose)
AntiMicrobial Soap (a good thing to have)

It will beat the hell out of the Virginia Tech regs that pointed to penis enlargement sites and aides.

If you find a source of article, make sure to attribute it to the writter.

There are plenty of RSS feeds on this matter to fill a page.

I have yet to read or hear a heart felt tale of a do gooder domainer in the media.

How often do you see do-gooder news in the media period? Rarely because that doesn't bring in ratings. (Edit: and I'm referring to the main news media, not Joe's Happy-Go-Lucky blog).

Heck, I run several websites for other people for almost free, I only collect adsense (which doesn't even pay for reg fees) because I believe in them, their message, and what they are trying to do / improve. I forward about a dozen other domains to other websites for the same reason and I don't even ask for a penny back.

I'm sure not a single person would care about that but they'll start shouting cybersquatter because I registered the .com of a recent natural disaster (registered for someone who lives there - just waiting for them to request the auth code so they can build up a site - they know who they are ;) ). They won't know or care about the reason, even if my registrar points it to their own parking (and I don't make a cent off of that).

Good faith is either ignored, abused, or eliminated.

I understand what you are saying. I am in the same category of free sites, ad-free sites, public interest or based, and medical related. I think up to about a dozen that are free to use.

Then there is the dog thing, dog rescue, therapy dog thing, and on and on. My wife and I both heavily involved in charity work and internet based free promotional stuff.

But that is the point. We are not regging names or using sites for notoriety. We are simply using the internet, the names, and the sites as actual functional media.

There will be no stories about us.

But I can change that in a minute by regging the hell out of the next tragic event, celebrity crime or death, or a terrorist act. And redirect and scam people into thinking that my site is the real deal.

That is what makes the news.

Man, I was just thinking about all the kids that went down there on spring break. That wasn't that far back. This virus might have hit some of them but was not called swine flu at the time. Imagine how many have potentially been exposed. Mercy, we're already talking about a city of 20 mil.

I just saw an update where there are 40 confirmed cases, 28 in New York.

I am not sure if those 28 were all confined to one place. Yesterday, 8 reported in New York - all students at the same school.
