We thought about adding an archive but the thing is, that would piss off certain buyers. Most people just don't want others to know how much they paid for a domain. It's understandable IMO and that's why I've decided not to post results anymore either. As a seller, I agree that the stats would be useful but at the end of the day, the most important thing for all parties involved is keeping buyers happy.

I think it would be archived somewhere else anyway,i forget the sites name but they are on here somewhere,so you may as well archive them,i mean sedo does and anyhow it would not stop me buying a domain if i wanted it,i mean they were all hand regged at some point.......

Yep, you're right but the same way, any sale between two parties can end up being archived if one of the parties decides to mention it at one point or another. The scenario you have mentioned represents something that I cannot control as the owner of Auctionpus.com, the only thing I have control over is my website.

If I were a seller, I would agree with you 100%. But if I were a buyer who wants to sell to other resellers down the road, I would appreciate it if the owner of the auction site "keeps his mouth shut", so to speak. It's one of those "it's impossible to please everyone" situations that website owners have to deal with.

On the one hand, I'd piss off buyers if I were to set up an archive but on the other hand, sellers would find it useful. I have decided not to make the results public because in my opinion, the most important thing for all parties involved (sellers included, as strange as it may sound) is that buyers are satisfied.

Alright and as far as our daily auctions are concerned, I have something special in store for you guys: we're focusing on AGED exact match product domains today (let's face it, you just can't go wrong with domains like these). I'll let the domains do all of the talking, here are the 8 auctions which started a few moments ago (all of them will end tomorrow at 2 PM EST):

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I've launched MiniEscrow.com earlier today, the Web's only escrow company which specializes in small transactions (<$1,000). Our commission is a mere 2.5%, we're open 24/7/365 (weekends included) and accept domains as well as websites.

As of today, people who win domains at Auctionpus.com have two options:

1) We can simply put them in touch with the seller
2) We can handle the transaction for them via MiniEscrow.com (the 2.5% can be paid by the buyer, by the seller or 50% - 50%)

Of course, MiniEscrow.com is a standalone website, we definitely accept transactions which have nothing to do with Auctionpus.com as well :)

I am not buying this explanation, doesn't smell right. If Sotheby's and Ebay can make the sale's info public, Autionpus can. Show me another auction site that hides all sales history? The buyer is making their bid public, that is why is called a public auction. You might be hiding the fact that the site isn't generating any sales, hence no data. Or, your sales are for the scant $1 reserves you populate the site with.* Sharing the sales data with your visitors and potential submitters would let them know if Autionpus is a viable sales platfom. The most important thing is not keeping the buyers happy but keeping the bidders coming, that requires inventory, trust and faith. To that point, it would be nice if someone other than you had a name on auction.

* It takes some big stones to suggest "No Reserves" to folks who want to submit domains when you you rarely follow that same advice. [Taken directly from one spot on the Auctionpus Website but it is mentioned multiple places]First of all, we want to make one thing perfectly clear: we are only accepting domains which are priced to sell and encourage sellers to list them at no reserve in order to let the market decide what the final price will be. Guess you don't have that same faith in the market that you want others to have. Putting 1 or 2 five day old names at $1 doesn't do it.

Sorry guys, that's not something I am willing to negotiate. I understand that as a seller, it would be easier to gather data if I were to publicly display an archive but buyers appreciate the fact that we're being discrete and as previously mentioned, the most important thing is keeping them satisfied.

Let's assume that you're a buyer who has just placed a bid on abcdefg.com and that I would ask you to choose between two options: publicly displaying sales data and not publicly displaying sales data. What would you choose? I'm sure the answer is obvious.

There are certain things that both buyers and sellers can agree on. For example, the fact that our old design sucked. As a result, I acted accordingly and had it changed. But there are issues such as this one when sellers want something that wouldn't be in the best interest of buyers (or the other way around, of course) and in my opinion, keeping buyers happy is more important than keeping sellers happy at this point.

Oh and as far as the reserves I am going with are concerned, I made one thing clear right from the beginning: we will focus on low and no reserve auctions and that's exactly what we're doing. For example, I auctioned casserole.net (one word dot net domain regged back in 1999) with a starting bid of $1 and no reserve just a couple of days ago. I will auction domains with no reserve today, then domains with low reserves tomorrow and so on. At this point, I'm experimenting because finding out what the market wants is not exactly a piece of cake :)

For transparency's sake I believe public disclosure of sales is a must.

For transparency's sake I believe public disclosure of sales is a must.

I am disclosing sales, the only thing I refuse to do is add an "archive" section to Auctionpus.com (again, I know it would make things easier for sellers but buyers would not appreciate this change).

After each auction ends, information about that auction (including the end date, number of bids and sales price) is displayed on the bid page of the domain in question. Let's take the domain VOPU.com as an example. If you visit the bid page of that domain (I used to be the owner, the auction ended), you will see the following information:

The Auction for VOPU.com is over.
It ended at 2010-05-24 14:10:00
There were 1 bids.
The final price was $1500
I'm pretty sure that's transparent enough, don't you agree?

I have nothing against transparency but as previously mentioned, adding an archive section would be too "in your face" IMO.
