Again, Cartoonz, I'm sorry but must I must dissent.

First off though, I'm sorry if you feel I misconstrued your statements in your prior post. If I did it was a misinterpretation of your ideas - nothing more. You are of course correct in that you did not earlier say that any business model that uses a registrars threads were "bad". Mea culpa.

Anyway, do you really see no difference between the practices of Snap and their registrar partners (and other, available-to-the-public Snap-like services) and between those who engage in secret name grabbing deals/registrar frontrunning?

I see a clear difference: Public access to deletes v. Private access only.

If WLS does get ratified, it will be a great day for honest buyers and a nightmare for buydomains, enom, etc.

Crying crocodile tears...

Public access, if you want to call it that, is also available from expirefish, namewinner, nicgenie, namefox, and 1/2 dozen others.

Why is this somehow "worse" than Snapnames? A lot of them are cheaper too, and most do NOT charge up front.

ALL of them would be eliminated from doing business if WLS is put into place, thus ensuring that if you do not miraculously get the ONE WLS slot on a name you are S.O.L.

NOW you have many options.
With WLS you will have NONE.

forget is that only ONE person can get the name.

With a WLS slot, it is 100% sure. So what if you have a 'pipe' dream thinking you can get a good name. That 'lottery' mentality of yours is trumping your logic.

Good riddance to all of those rip off outfits.

if wls is ratified we'll see a lot more people approaching the current owner pre drop and shortcircuiting the snaps. As it stands, people don't do that as they still have a chance via all the alternative grab systems - but if someone else has a snap on a domain you want in a wls environment the best and only approach is to contact the current owner directly.

What you don't seem to "get" is that only ONE person can get the WLS slot too.

All this really does is shift the race up a level.

Those that suck at catching names today will still suck at it under WLS.

Those that excell at names grabbing today will still be on top under WLS.

...at least under the current system one could improve.

the great thing too with WLS is that it will put all those snake-oil peddlers of 'drop lists' out of business too!

Bring on WLS!

I find it odd that a self professed player such as yourself RacerX has such a problem with the fees being charged by other companies for their services whether that be drop lists or bid for service "drop get" services.

It's very rare to hear successful domain players complaining about the cost of anything domain related as they understand the cost/benefit relationship and just get on with their business under whatever system prevails.

Fact 1:
WLS is going to happen, and there is nothing anyone (us) can do or say about it.

Fact 2:
ICANN and Verisign are brother and sister

I guess I've seen so much smoke and mirrors in the domainworld over the years that its made me very skeptical about claims and motives.

I disagree...

I do not see the difference between having the WLS and how the situtation is now.

Deepest pockets always win anyway.

(i don't have any pockets, even though i am c.e.o :) )

Compare that to registrars who either grab deletes for themselves (prohibited, but done all the time), or enter exclusive, secret deals to grab deletes.
*****************************

huh??? exclusive, secret deals.. what a load of rubbish. Why is it every wannabe that has never even talked to a registrar "'KNOWS" all about it.

**********************************

Anybody who thinks that WLS will provide "fair and equal access" is a fool.

Agreed.

Fact 1:

>>>>nope

Fact 2:
ICANN and Verisign are brother and sister

>>>now if you want to speculate on secret back room deals there's fertile ground.

Fact 3:
Pamela Andersons Boobs are Fake

>>>always thought that was one ugly woman

You are a real newbie if you think there is any speculation on my part in that fact. If you only knew !!!!)
