Sick. Someone already registered AsiaQuake.com and selling it on Sedo. Reminds me of those lawyers who chase the dying around.

That's good news (except for those of course!) - reports in the UK put the figure higher for Chennai.

The worst known death toll so far was in Sri Lanka, where a million people were displaced from wrecked villages. Some 20,000 soldiers were deployed in relief and rescue and to help police maintain law and order. Police chief, Chandra Fernando said at least 3,000 people were dead in areas under government control.

Tsunamis kill more than 8,500 in Asia

More than 8,500 people were killed when giant waves triggered by a massive earthquake (8.9 on the Richter Scale, source: US Geological Survey), whose epicentre was near the Indonesian island of Sumatra, wiped out coastal areas in south and east Asia on Sunday morning

Just had an email from our friends in Columbo - they are okay but relatives in Jaffna (north) have lost their home and several family members :-(
At least 5000 dead and 1 million homeless in Sri Lanka!

"US seismologists saw the tsunami's coming but did not know who to contact to give a warning". (CNN)

Even if they knew whom to contact, I doubt the party they would've warned
would be able to react on time. Those things happened quickly and, of course,
without warning.

Our news placed the death toll at 15,500 and still counting. Only time will tell
what the official figure would be.

The death toll is at 30000+ and still more than 10000 missing .. and these r official figures .. so they will always be below whats exact figures...

And yes 2 hours could have saved some people atleast.. and now all the analysis is on and they say will build system for future...

I think they prefer cash to old clothes. It's easy to transfer and to buy food and stuff. Clothes and food needs to deliver and the shipping cost is expensive. I donated $100 on the day of the disaster.
