HHHmmm, this IS the sedo forum. :)

Sorry to dissapoint you but I don't like sedo and of course I don't work for them. Also I don't live is Utah.

False advertising is what all major companies do. Especially in the US.
It is your responsibility to read the fine print.

Why dont you go back to the sedo forum where you belong, becuase to me it seems you are saying these practices are ok with you mister DVDRIP, YOu have bite my rear end also it was probaly you domain I bought.

To let sedo know I have now posted this on every major domain Message board there is including their own message board.

Sedo Can Screw me and I screw them back.

And unless you work for Sedo DVDRIP get out of my Post.

As You make little to no sense and you are saying the false advertising they are doing is ok.

Well In the us false advertisement is against the law.

Standard Escrow services allow the buyer to try the domains for a finite period to verify the claims set forth in the contract of sale.

Yup, contract of sale. Did you agree to one where you could test the traffic? Or did you just toss the money over, not ask for a traffic test and pray that someone would cover for your mistake in the end?

I'll bet my 2 cents that sedo won't mind losing a customter like you. You didn't read the fine print, and now that you've gotten screwed you're looking for evidence to support your claim that you're right and sedo is wrong.

YOU didn't do the homework using dozens of available resources, many of them free. Sedo did their job. Now that you've been informed, you'll be a better buyer, even if it's with another company.

Domain Total Alexa AllTheWeb AltaVista Google Google PR HotBot Msn Yahoo
www.aastats.com 0 1566342 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
aastats.com 0 1566342 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

The domain has no links, yet it has an Alexa ranking which is probably fake because of the lack of links. There's no way this domain is going to have any good traffic, let alone 9000 uniques a month. This information took me 10 seconds to check, and that's only because the script has to query all those sites.

I am confident once SlimCrazy calms down he will admit that he could of done more to verify the stats.. his post does however highlite the mistakes we can make and therefore now that we know not to trust stats and not to allow a company regardless of its size to lower us into a false sense of security.

The information on the site is somewhat misleading regardless of intent. Slim is a domainer and he is expected to verify and question.. but not everyone is a domainer and these people would trust what a company like SEDO would display on there site.. at the least there should be a disclaimer.. Small Print is designed to conceal to a degree and to protect to rights of the Company.

Perhaps this has brought focus for change that the buyer should have the option to test the traffic as per the arrangements of other Programs if the buyer does request so.

Valid points have been made for both sides.. and this has to be put down to a lesson learned.

I want to clarify this entire situation for everyone reading!

See I am sitting here one day on the computer and I decide to go to over to sedo, I have read alot of bad things but I had an old account with them a few domains parked in it.

So I said lets check out the bargain bin never even searched for names on there network.

Ok so bargain bin is domains under $299

I come across a domain, Looks very interesting for the price.

aastats.com coule be a typo for awstats.com wait awstats.org

Maybe it was a typo for aaastats.com a developed website.

I could see how it would get some traffic, but this was really high.

I think it was 9,201 for the past 30 days when I made the offer.

The guy was asking $150!

Wow that is not much money, bought it hoping maybe it could be atleast asian traffic, I did not care what country the traffic came from.

I did not even pay asking price submitted an offer of $100

And the guy comes back and excepts it, I knew right then more than likely the traffic was fake, for the seller to except that.

But now I am binded into the contract. So I send my $100 to sedo through Paypal.

It takes them almost 7 days to claim they have the money, that left my account right then.

It took another 3 weeks to get the domain, wait I forgot something
Sedo reported in there system I had the domain 7 days before I actually got it.

By now the seller has his money and ran off to probally buy traffic for the next domain he was going to scam someone on. %+|

I work based on principals. And what is stated on the websites where i buy or sell domains.

The principal of the matter is sedo says you can trust their site and community. Well I figured all this would happen and I would be out of my money. Not like it is taking bread off the table but that is a good couple days parking revenue I lost.

And for some people stating Sedo Did what it is suppose to do in their escrow transaction, that would be false. Sedo pays it members the moment they receive the domain, not when the buyer receives it.

Also I would like everyone to consider this. Not only does sedo do nothing it is members for using false means to get traffic to there parked pages.

It also breaks its own policies by sending out the sellers information to the buyer.

That is right sedo sent me all the sellers information. :dead:

Ok so now we know all the policies have been breeched by the company that wrote the policies and that sedo does feel that this transaction was a bad transaction. Or they would not have sent me the details of the seller.
:undecided

So to no end does sedo wash there hands of this situation after send me messages let me add this one where sedo stated they would help recover my funds.

Yes Sedo did that state that also They Backed out as I figured they would when the seller was unwilling to give them the funds back.

So I want to warn all users that ever need to do any kind of dealings with domains listed on sedo.

Heed this advice:

#1: Contact the seller from the whois information: The seller should be more than willing to sell to you out side of sedo.com or sedo.co.uk

They have no obligtion to go through sedo and pay sedos commision fees.

#2: Arrange payment through Escrow.com: This way you can set a limit on how many days after you receive the domain, that the funds are sent to the seller, this gives you time to check the traffic.

#3: If you have any problems on sedo they are not willing to help only give out your personal details to the buyer/seller. A strict break in their own policies.

As for me and my dealing through sedo it will never happen again, As they have lost all my trust.

I also have any factual data and details anyone needs from this transaction and all buyers should beware of the seller listed in the thread.

After you have paid you can have all the info you want.
Especially if you require a contract.
You could see all the info in the whois anyway.

#1 and #2 are correct.
For #3 see above.

What I don't understand is why did you send the money if you knew the traffic was fake? You should have asked sedo to verify the traffic before you send the money.
A 9000 unique/month domain for $100 or even $299 was bound to be a scam.

No it does state that both buyers and sellers Identies will be held private which breaks several laws in the US dealing with the Privacy Act. Which are big time felonies.

There are still people in this world that do not know the value of domains. You can still get bargains.

This is not a battle between me and you DVDrip.

This is a battle of why sedo lets these transactions take place on their network.

How much more clear can I be?

If you went to a car lot and bought a car, and it said the car had 20,000 miles on it.

Then you take the car to your shop and find out the miles were incorrect it really has 70,000 miles on it.

You would take it back to the dealership where you bought the car. And get your money from them.

You think that dealer ship is going to tell you to go find the person that traded the car into them?

No that is a breech int he fair privacy act.

It is then the Dealerships Responsibility to get their funds back from the person they got the car from in the first place.

I know this for a fact. My wife bought a 2 year old honda from a Honda Dealership we find out 6 monthes later it was a stolen car and the vin numbers do not go to the car, after a small law suit we was awarded all our money back and all lawyer fees and time lost.

From the Dealership, then the dealership turned around and sued the person they got the car from.

Really it is almost the same thing.

Sedo really is acting as the seller, as I sent the money to sedo, and I got the domain from sedo.

The seller transfered ownership to sedo, then sedo sent the name to me.

Both buyer's and seller's information are available for all to see either before the transfer(for the seller) or after the transfer(for the buyer).
I don't understand what you mean.

Sedo is acting as an escrow. An escrow is not a dealership.
If as a seller want to charge VAT, you charge it to the buyer. Not sedo.
If you require a contract, the contract is between buyer and seller.
Sedo is just the fax machine in between so that the seller doesn't know who the buyer is before the funds have transferred to sedo.

I don't like sedo and will leave it soon. But let's be fair...

ok lets be fair,

Seller has name for sale at set price:

Buyer makes offer:

Seller excepts:

Buyer sends funds to Sedos Paypal Account

Seller sends domain to Sedo

Sedo then sends domain to Buyer

Sedo actually in court would be considered the one selling the goods.

As the name is in their possesion and they are controling that merchandise.

It would be sedos responsibility to give refunds and make it a successful transaction, wether you want to call it Escrow or Consignment, If you buy something at a consignment store you take it back to that store to get the refund and then the store gets the money back from the seller.

These are simple laws and rules and basic business practices.

wow check this out, I just got off the phone with the seller.

Seller has paper work sedo faxed to him stating he sold the domain to sedo!

It states Austin
Agrees to sell the domains listed to sedo:
AASTATS.Com

For $90.00

So now we know Sedo is the seller to me, as sedo purchased the name from the owner.

Ok come I want you to explain with the copy of this paper work how sedo is not the seller and the responsible party?

I would have to agree with this statement. No matter what merchandise is merchandise. Whether it be watches or domains. Once a person takes possession of this said merchandise they are then responsible.

For instance I buy a watch from slim, let's say it's stolen, I am still breaking the law for accepting and being in possesion of stolen goods. Even if I don't know the history of this watch, previous owner, anything. I still assume all responsibility once I accept it. It's that simple.

apples =/= oranges

sedo did their job 100%
slimcrazy blew it and wants sedo to pay for his mistake.

Now you want to use escrow.com but when this happens again you'll blame them. It's not the escrow companies job to do the work for you or enforce ANY type of contact, it's their job to obtain the domain and transfer the funds. Any other problems are dealt with elsewhere (ie court) as sedo/escrow are NOT lawyers and not a court of law and cannot force anyone to do anything.

sedo NEVER promised you any traffic, even if they are the seller. It was the user that promised you the traffic.

I think this thread needs to be closed because there is no longer a point. The user has been proven wrong and is still ranting.

Excuse me, but unless you have read all my points you have not right to comment on small parts.

Sedo website states for you to trust there stats when making a purchase, they also state you are buying the domain from the seller, which is false.

Sedo buys the domain from the seller, then sells it to the buyer.

Sedo does not give you any options in their escrow service to make any contracts or conditions.

It says it is an escrow but it is more of a consignment.

They state members with fake traffic will be removed and the domains removed, this domain was on there server for several monthes.

You opinion is noted but is not very educated.

This is sedos mistake, and they claimed responsibilty in emails then backed out of taking it.

You keep thinking the way you do and this will continue to happen to people.

Sedo made a promise of traffic by listing the traffic on the sales offer from their servers.

If they can not stand behind the traffic stats on their site, they should not use them as a way to sell domains.

Peace and I hope you to get screwed oneday and then you will know how it feels.

I agree with that statement 100%.. However add in an alleged reputable company that acts as proxy to the transaction of there approved customer base.. then that changes things somewhat.

As this item was Digital there is no recourse from his paypal payment to SEDO, but if this item was actually carbon based then our good friend would of been able to file a dispute.

Regardless of right and wrong.. a very important question is:- was the seller ever kicked out of SEDO for Fraud?

I cant see this thread going anywhere now as things are just going in cirlces.

slimcrazy.com has a point and an opinion as do the rest of us.

It would seem the right answer is down to that of the individuals interpretation of the facts.

I am sure that this subject will come up again but for now I am confident all that can be said has been..

Thread Closed.
