Hi,

I'm just curious to know your opinons on the following question.

Should one list a price for a domain name for sale or should they just list it as "Make an offer"?

What are the pros and cons of both methods and has anyone got some experience or tests regarding this?

Thanks so much. :)

I would say that depends on where you are selling and why. When I sell here to clean out my portfolio, I find it best to list a price. When I get an inquiry on a name I request an offer. The reason is basic. If I am listing here I am obviously planning on selling and have a price in mind or I wouldn't list it for sale. If I get an unsolicited offer I am probably using the name and not planning on selling but might be interested witha reasonable offer.

When I am buying I always want to see a price.

When I am selling I hate to advertise a price!!!

Go figure.

Think of it from a potential buyers point of view - ie if you want to buy a domain - would you prefer "make an offer" or a set price?

For retail buyers, I quote a high retail, and indicate "open to negotiation."

It depends on who is buying it, how much negotiation will be done. Fortune 500 = no negotiation, and it's usually a C&D I get from them anyway.

If it's a name I would like to move, usually anything above $500 will take it.
