Actually - global warming could cause an ice age... :sigh2:

No I don't think so. The only thing that could cause a ice age is much more cooling.

More cold weather means....
More fossil fuels burned for heat....
More fossil fuels burned means more co2 dumped into atmosphere....
More co2 in the atmosphere means more ManMadeGlobalWarming....

You still believe in the myth of man made global warming. If anything we are in a cooling trend that has been going on for the last decade or more.

Sorry bd77 but I don't think common, sensible, proven facts can be called a "myth".

Its a fact carbon dioxide (co2) is unleased in large quantites when fossil fuels are burned.

Its a fact the majority of those large quantities of co2 cannot be assorbed naturally by our planet and are steadily accumulating in an ever thicking layer of gases surrounding our earth.

Its a fact the ever increasing layer of Green House Co2 gases is acting as a giant envelop that retains heat close to the earth.

Its a fact that just an average worldwide change of 5 or 6 degrees F. temperature can cause our climate worldwide to change dramatically.

Its a fact the ice in our arctic region is melting as are the mountain glaciers worldwide.

Its a fact our climate is changing worldwide as a result of GW.

Its a fact our crop production, animals lives and daily habits are changing worldwide as a result of GW.

Its a fact climate change caused by GW will continue to get worse if mankind does not adopt a cleaner way of producting energy and stop burning fossil fuels.

Its also a fact that even tho fossil fuels are limited, there are still enough left on our planet to completely destroy our way of life if we keep burning them for fuel.

Its also a fact that no matter how many like you who refuse to accept true facts of whats really happening, GW will continue until mankind somehow reverses the accumulation of co2 gases in our atmosphere.

Be thankful for those like Al Gore and Obama who are wise enough to recognize the giganic problem and willing to stand up and fight it. These men and others like them are the true heros who will go down in history....not the negative naysayers you support and ascribe to.

I woke up to chilly weather - it's 62 now and got as low as 51 last night. :)

No I don't think so. The only thing that could cause a ice age is much more cooling.

There is a "conveyor belt" like effect in the Atlantic ocean - it brings warm water form the Caribbean / southwest Atlantic to western Europe. Global warming will cause more ice to melt, thus bringing cooler water though rivers like the Mississippi. This would bring cooler water into the Gulf of Mexico (and other nearby areas) possibly shutting down that conveyor belt.

Now with that supply of warm water not going to western Europe will cause that area to cool down (ever woner why southern UK seems much more tropical than New England even though it's hundreds of miles further to the north?).

Colder winters would hit Europe, more snow = more of the sun's rays deflected into space = cooler temperatures.

The Earth has an amazing way of balancing itself out.

Also, "warming periods" are considered very short in the Earth's history - normally lasting about 10,000-20,000 years. How long have we (humans) been around?

Oddly enough, I was never cold nor did it seem to be cold at all when I lived it Maine.

It was just plain fun - wintertime and the snow.

Winter Wonderland.

Then I did my undergraduate work in West Virginia. Worked at a ski resort. The actual raw temperature one day at the top of the mountain was -27F on a Christmas Day and a wind chill of nearly -60F. That was bad. No matter what you had for clothes, the wind just seemed to slice right through it.

Now after living in the south so long, 50 starts to feel cold.

When I was up at UMaine we had 3 feet of snow one day (or more?) - even the UMaine campus closed down (which it hadn't closed down due to weather in over 30 years). The next day it was over 60 out so there were pictures of people in shorts walking past 8'-10' high snow banks and 3'-5' of snow on the ground. :)

I recall some freak May snows that would be a couple of feet. That was many years ago.

I think one time it even snowed in June.

Mostly sunny and 64F with a light wind. Temperature in the 80s on Monday so it feels kind of cold... However Dallas is prone to sudden ice storms when Arctic air masses do reach this far south.

this is perhaps the most ignorant post ive seen so far in 2009!

fact: Per 1,000,000 particles in our atmosphere, 38 are CO2.

Chew on that for awhile

I'm sure you think you know more about the release of co2 and the impact its having on our thin layer atmosphere from burning fossil fuels than the great majority of our worlds leading climate scientists, the worlds foremost leaders, and the great majority of our universities and colleges all combined. You are wrong my friend and I suggest you do some self study on the subject instead of listening to others like yourself who don't have a clue as to the real danger of excessive co2 as it relates to manmade GW.

There are over 380 PPM of co2 in our atmosphere now which has increased from 313 in 1960. Any amount over 350 ppm is considered excessive and is likely to result in climate change castrophies from global warming.

If you think my previous post was ignorant....I wonder what you think about this statement....when one gallon (about 6 pounds) of gasoline is burned it releases almost 19 pounds of carbon dioxide (co2)....most of which goes directly into our atmosphere. Before you call this ignorant too I hope you will take the time to verify it for yourself.

I do think burning fossil fuels is bad for the earth.

There are alternative ways to power a car which have been purposely suppressed so big oil companies can continue to rape us.

(some alternatives: electricity/solar/vegetable oil (including WASTE VEGETABLE OIL)

If you need proof, drive out here to California and I can point out hundreds of vehicles running on WASTE VEGETABLE OIL from In n Out burgers and chinese restaurants.

Peak Oil is a scam (Lindsey Williams has a good presentation called the energy non crisis)

There is at least 200 years worth of oil in Alaska! (And this oil is easier to refine than Middle East oil)

Global Warming (or now since the earth is cooling 'climate change') is a scam

You will find that the sun is the culprit when it comes to cooling and warming.

The temperature is never stagnating globally it is always increasing or decreasing.

To blame a trace element for the warming of the planet defies common sense.

on top of this CO2 is beneficial for the planet!

this does not mean I condone the rampant use of fossil fuels, this is an obsolete way to power our machines.

Why won't the Al Gore/Bush/Clinton/Obama cartel actually take measures to help the planet?

Because too many big companies would lose out on their massive profits.

We already have more than enough energy from the sun to power our buildings, but alas there is not much money in this for those companies behind coal/oil/nuclear plants if we do this.

I am all ears to listen to the worlds best climate scientists.

Obama and Al Gore are not scientists.

I'd be happy to listen to any one of the 31,000 SCIENTISTS who have signed the petitionproject.org.

Feel free to browse the data on globalwarmingfraud.org. I need feedback.

It needs to be as simple as possible, no simpler.

If I can convert just one person who swore by Al Gore's film and now sees the light - then I know I am doing okay.

I know you are likely a well meaning person. Many years ago I too thought Gore's film was convincing and without further research I believed him.

It was COLD this morning - my weather station recorded a temperature of 39.8 when I left - I actually wore a jacket to work this morning (it happens once or twice a year).
