Here's tonight's show. I'll be listening in:

Hi all – tonight on Domain Masters

http://www.webmasterradio.fm/

We have Stephen Crean (pronounced Kreen) confirmed for tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.

BIOGRAPHY

Steve Crean is 36 and since 2002 has focused on running his own businesses online dealing with import/export. Since late 2005 he has been focused almost entirely on IDNs.

His interest in international domain names (IDNs) began when he came across IDN pioneer Dave Wrixon talking about them in late 2005 on DNForums. Like his peers in the IDN community he realized the move would soon herald a paradigm shift: A second wave of domain registrations in a wide range of languages.

Website URLs would soon be in any number of languages, with myriad prospects. Seeing investment opportunities and numerous permutations for trade, he secured several names based on his research into future trends of lifestyles, cultures, web development and Internet usage worldwide.

Today, his portfolio reflects intensive research into the major economies such as China, India, Japan and Russia, among many others. He envisages his portfolio yielding their full potential in the years to come as the web continues to present businesses and home users with new ways to diversify their online presence in their native languages.

Steve also joined forces with a group of IDN holders to run a forum dedicated to all things IDN. (DNlocal.com) A wealth of information, news and views as well as a comprehensive 'toolbox' for use with IDNs is available, and any one of the members there are willing to answer any questions you might have regarding IDNs.

We have Farley Cahen confirmed for the show tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST.

BIOGRAPHY:

Farley Cahen is both Publisher of AVN Online Magazine and the Director of New Business Development for the AVN Media Network. He began his career with AVN as the Director of Internet Development nearly six years ago. Within two years, he transformed the AVN network of sites into the most visited Adult business-to-business news and information resources on the Internet. As Publisher of AVN Online Magazine, he grew the circulation to nearly 15,000 monthly B-to-B Adult Online Professional subscribers making the magazine the most widely circulated and read Adult Online B-to-B magazine in the world.

This past year, he developed AVNads.com, the Internet's largest online Adult advertising Network which has over 10,000 sites delivering nearly 70 million ad impressions daily. His current goals include expanding AVN Online's reach into Europe as well as developing new advertising and marketing strategies for AVN Media Network's clients.

I heard the Interview with Steve, and think it was a bit weak, and, overall, should have been better prepared.

I would like to have heard some of the background on IDNs - that they were introduced in the "Verisign testbed" in November 2000.

It should have been explained, that the new interest in IDNs is mainly due to the release of IE7, which most people are not yet using.

I think it should have been clearer that IDNs are available in .com, .net and the various country code TLDs - AND that there is further development to introduce full IDNs, in which the top level (extension) as well as the second level, are in the International character sets.

The subject of IDN.IDN may be the most important aspect of IDNs in the coming year (or longer), in which "DNAME" may be the application to IDN.com, IDN.net, IDN.jp, etc. into full IDN.IDN domains, where the dot-IDN extension will correspond to general TLDs (.com, .net), or country-code TLDs (.jp, .cn, etc.).

There has been some documentation on the subject of DNAME, and it seems logical, and some believe imminent, that DNAME will become the standard, and that current .com (and other TLD) IDN registrations will be converted to the new DNAME / IDN.IDN standard.

DNAME application has been described as simply applying and alias IDN.IDN, where the ".IDN" extension is the equivalent of the extension for the specific language.

A few words could have been made on research tools, and where to find them - the Verisign IDN conversion tool, Japanese and Chinese Overtures, translation sites, etc., as well as the best registrars that offer IDNs, and supporting PPC companies.
