In what position would .us
be? And what is the .us potential
compared to other extensions
within the internet structure of today?

I know com is by far the greatest
then maybe .net, but thereafter?

It´s not very often one see .info
.ws etc. .us is more common I think.

Your thoughts please.

IMO they go in this order
.com
.net
.info
.biz
.eu - soon
.us

the reason .eu comes before .us is because US uses gTLD more than ccTLD, but European use ccTLD more. So .us market share is alread taken by gTLD.

I thought .de and .co.uk were more popular?

I think the reduction in registration requirements to 1 year will help the .us market, as will the press when the kids.us ext is released.

Also, when applying typically american or political names to the ccTLD you can attain a higher value than .biz, .info and .net in my opinion. Example: RepublicanParty.us

If there were no factors other than genericity it would be like this

info
biz
com
net
org

or info could be the 3rd..

Here is my preference list:

1) com - Typein's/Marketability
2) biz - Future potential as a "business domain"
3) us - Dot us is widely used in the US right now. The "us" ending is a bon-us" for logical names, like "www.buy.us"
4) info - The "info" is a natural word; good for travel names, etc
5) org - I like when "org's" are actually used by "organizations"
6) net - The 15 years as a ugly step-child to dot com has really hurt the "brandability" of this TLD.

In the end, if you are a developer, you don't really need to worry about the ending. Just what's in between that matters!!! IF Yahoo.com sucked from a navigational-content standpoint, they would be out of business by year's end--with or without the "com" ending.

.com is king, and the rest of the TLDs are all second (some extensions fit certain names better than others)

In the US it's clearly:

1. com
2. org
3. net

My advice to all is to not buy any domain for a US market that is not one of those three.

.US is already a one year registration (at least until the end of this year. After that they may go back to 2, but I doubt it).

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH DKNY except he might have forgot the .org, just after .net

Posters.Biz is king then.. :)

.com
.US
.Info
.net
.org

I dont know anymore....it really is becoming more and more subjective of what your business or organization is and what product or service..some extensions are better in .US others in .com and yet others in .org.

I would agree with that. With the new extensions it is possible to match a root word with an extension that makes more sense with that word. It will take a few years before we see how values shake out, but I like the way things are shaping up. Everyone has their personal preferences. For me they are:

com
net
org
info
us
biz (though if you can get me show.biz I'll bump this WAY up!)
