How strange, I am shown as the owner in their WHOIS for a purchased .VN domain yet it resolves to some completely different website.

Unfortunately Name Resolving under VN is taking extra-long time time because the Registry is wide open for the first time so they want to be extra-careful... That means they do everything by hand for the time being... And no Registrar can go around that for now ! :-( We have been given assurances by the Registry that the names registered on the day of the opening shall start resolving some time this Friday (August 18th). Again, because they check each and every name manually, we cannot give a more precise date, it may be Monday for some of them, taking into account DNS propagation... It is the ransom of success ;-)

Good names like jobs.vn & property.vn and lots others as well as other premium names were gone days ago when I checked. So what's this about the 15th Aug? Domains like hotels.vn are already live, .vn was cherry picked long before today.

why go for english words in vietnam? In many cases, these would only be useful to an expat niche market. Think about it, I doubt property.de would be the best domain name for a real estate related business in Germany.

Anyway - I run a software company, a small transportation business and an international fashion export business out of Vietnam, and I'm available to consult on vietnamese domains. A lot of the real cherrys are still out there - IF the .vn tld really becomes a succes (vs .com.vn).

PM me if you're interested.

you are right about the pricing, but Vietnam is in the beginning. based on the data from the registry 16% have visited already the internet. that means they have a computer at the workplace or tried an Internet Cafe. Internet is at the beginning in Vietnam! Prices will go down with the time and companies tend to short names. The .vn will replace within few years the .com.vn

yep. Very much so. The normal way to apply for a domain name in Vietnam is to fill out a paper application, deliver it by hand, and pay cash. If it's a good domain name the reseller might just take it themselves.

I just applied for a couple of domains with your interface Fred. Hopefully your operation is smoother...

(BTW - to those of you who were asking about the price - locals pay approximately 30 USD here + the hassle)

The .vn will replace within few years the .com.vn

hopefully.

freddy,

why does it look like names being reserved via eurodns aren't being immediately set to inprocess by dot.vn?

it seems i have already lost 1 name that i registered via eurodns that was showing avail by dot.vn only to now show inprocess with someone else's info according to dot.vn. it seems to me that people registering via dot.vn are getting priority and it's not actually a first come-first serve basis.

can you clarify this with dot.vn for me and others?

thanks,

-KwelX

sorry that I was not fast enough responding, was teaching bicycle my son. :)
correct the vnnic.net.vn is the registry, and dot.vn (hi-tek) is a foreign (american) Registrar. Hi-Tek was a long time the only one foreign registrar.
James, the registrars are paying the registry money for changing NS, so define already in the beginning the correct NS.
By the way, I registered: voyage.vn and voyages.vn is french and means travel and travels. I have no experience with travel domains, is someone interested?

Hi gemsergio,
the names are going to be checked by the registry manually. So it will take some time. Our legal had the registry in the chat and they promissed us the Friday, but this is already 2 days ago. I think they are not working on the weekend, so expect Monday or perhaps later. sorry but we have to wait for them.
The discount code is: DNFORUM_VN expires: 24/10/2006

We think that when the 2nd level opens that the 3rd Level domains will not grow any more and be replaced by the 2nd level. A good example is the .es. There is no growth any more in .com.es.

Makes sense, although some cctlds seem to somewhat slower with regards to this development, notably .sg - a lot of possibly interesting domains are still available there.

Some of the differences between .sg vs .es could be attributed to key players' "trendsetting" choices - such as google.sg which is redirected to google.com.sg

Anyway - back to .vn:

I registered cuocsong.vn today; "lifestyle", which is one of the top ten June queries @ google.com.vn ( http://www.google.com/press/intl-zeitgeist.html#vn )

I wonder when I'll see an ROI here. Any guesses?

Thanks Freddy..
Looks like I have a refund coming from the OP then..
I guess they have to "process" it first before they deny it because the name is showing regged at vnnic.net.vn

Hi typo,

cuocsong.vn does not show an overture with extension, so I am not sure if you will have traffic. I have some 20-30 .com.vn domains and traffic and income is good, but all off the domains have an overture above 100.
