This is the transcript from GNSO/ ICANN etc that also gives easy to understand examples.
Most of the information is provided by Chuck Gomes is VP at Verisign who manage .com and .net.
Still some decent deals on the secondary market for IDNs, and even some good stuff to mine at reg fee.

Shh...... I still have my lists to reg. But there really is some nice domains out there to reg if you are looking in the right places and languages.

Also if you are totally lost in IDN and just want to get a few decent terms; secondary native speaker aftermarket sales are the way to go.

This is the domain part I can't invest. I simply don't understand it.

English is already hard to compete, IDN not knowing if you have the right information. Knowledge is money, I will skip this one.

ditto. you can end up wasting thousands by simply using the wrong resource.

Know and explore your niche markets.

Choose a language that is easy to understand, translate, and used frequently.

Don't go the obscure route.

Stick to what is used by native speakers.

If possible, get assistance from native speakers.

Really not that hard with all the free tools, dictionaries, google trends and friendly native speakers around this and other forums. Once you get the "hang" of it, really not that difficult.

For instance... try this link for a Thai dictionary, once on click on "catagories" (dead center at top). There you go, a whole cadre of prime Thai words by theme. Then Copy, Check Term, Paste, Register.

Edwin is surely a happy guy after the Verisign news. Ditto for DCG among others.

You don't need an "IDN Keyboard" if there even is such a thing. Certainly there are keyboards with special keys to type in various foreign languages but not really needed for finding domains etc.

For registering IDNs...its pretty much translate you english word (ie. google.com/translate) then cut and paste the translated term.

They have gotten way better, and usually you cross reference 2 or 3 dictionaries to see if they all give you the "same" term. Then make lists and solicit the help of the many native speakers that will critique them for you (sometimes free, or a small fee), then reg the ones you like. IDNTools.com is a great place for dictionaries and other resources.

Many have acquired quality generic names over the last few years buying names from native speakers on the various IDN forums. Or buying lists of available names that are put up for sale from time to time.

Or you could find a native language Search Engine.

Copy and Paste the terms into Google Translate.

Check Availability.

The Main Terms most probably have been taken, however when clicking on the main terms, several related terms should come up.
These will include some nice Generic terms, and you may get lucky, and pick some up, here and there.

If you're referring to Trademark holders, it could be more opportunity than hassle, reaching new markets!

Correct...and if you try to (knowlingly) sell a trademark on any of the IDN forums you will be booted quick. The community is viciously against worthless mixed script domains that people register to "look" like English words, and places that will even allow them to be sold.

As soon as what Chuck Gomes is saying is confirmed, large corporations will start buying and branding on IDN.com. Dual branding with IDN.IDNcom will then follow later. They will have the confidence to invest as soon as they have a Road Map. Investing is about knowing where things are going rather than determining you have arrived. Speculating is of course guessing about where things are going, but it would seem some IDNers have been doing some pretty shrewd guessing.

If you wait until all the knowables are know then as a speculation, you will be too late. This is not the model followed by Schwartz and other key players in the Domain Industry. They got in and used their gut and followed their nose. Those that what to be sure, rarely get anywhere!
