David.....good to read ya, but if I don`t know WHEN, then HOW do I reg some? Cheers

IDN.com and IDN.net began registering in 2000', IDN.cn and IDN.jp etc started registering in about 2003. Most of the top tier IDNs have been long registered and held for almost a decade. A lot of domainers claimed these were worthless and to wait for "real" IDNs...

Verisign has now confirmed (what was pretty much known all along if you stayed up with GNSO, GAC, ICANN idn meetings) that the original idn.com and idn.net WILL BECOME idn.idn and idn.idn, and idn.cn and idn.jp etc etc will become idn.idn. Existing nameholders will be the only ones to be allowed to have the idn.idn version (probably for an extra fee of some sort.)

It is estimated there are only about 1 million IDNs registered, so still some good opportunities perhaps. The only high value IDNs still to sunrise and launch are the new Russian Federation idn.rf. You have to be a Russian citizen to get those at the get-go.

what are you talking about???

I have been away from the whole domain world for many months but seems I know more than you:

From December 10th it will be possible to register .EU domain names containing special characters for the first time. From our experience, demand for newly released domain names is very high. We would therefore like to help you as much as we can.

If there is a domain you’d like to acquire we are accepting submissions until tomorrow, Wednesday at 3pm.

Step 1: Tell us which .eu IDN domain name that you would like to pre-register via sedo.com/euIDN .
Step 2: We will forward your request to our partner registrar, who will work to secure the name for you when the domains are released on December 10, 2009.
Step 3: All domain names that our partner registrars have successfully registered will be entered into a special Sedo auction on December 11.

A quote from another forum:

You tell us which IDNs are valuable
Pay us to try and get them for you
If we do, we will put it up for public auction even if you are the only bidder

What REALLY bugs me in that BS sedo bollocks is the word 'special'

tbh normal .eu are virtually worthless, so idn are even worse tbh, i'm saying with .eu
I think the Germans, Dutch, and others will agree with you on this. I have seen so much activity on .de, .nl, and others yet little (if any) activity on .eu.

now THAT would be a thing

i know what you meant, don't worry
thing is hundreds of thousands of .asia were regged too. its fair to say most domainers get it wrong most of time though.
if they're companies that plan to use it's great i guess

If you think idn.eu will have future value feel free to jump in and register. I can only tell you the vast majority of the experienced IDN investment community are going to "pass" on these.

Most agree that IDN will parallel ascii.com, ascii.gtld etc. and that the BIGGEST value for IDN in the future will be idn.com and idn.cctld (idn.jp, idn.de, idn.cn), all of which now confirmed to become idn.idn.

The only idn.idn future release of any high value will be idn.rf (Russian Federation) That is agreed on by everybody that knows more than me.
