Generous tip, Adam. I didn't bother looking up which 21 states are reportedly planning online lottery ticket purchases, since I expect that an experiment so widely adopted -- if successful -- will soon become universal in all 50 states. Undoubtedly, you and Hawkeye grabbed the most relevant states. But I was able to register 70-something. And at the moment, the state abbreviations remain available. Many of the longer state names, like North Carolina, might be more effective if abbreviated. Compare northcarolinalotteryonline.com and NCLotteryOnline.com

And I see who was the other name I kept running into. ;) Wow, you got a lot of them. I only took a few. I see some of the (state)OnlineLottery.com names you have, are some I passed on, figuring they were too conservative for a online lottery for a long while out. Then.., you never know. :undecided:

Good luck with them!

You may be right that some of these states will hold out. But, for the record, I registered all of these after I read your post. Cheers!

I would say you have better odds, buying a single lottery ticket. The ONLINE keyword is oblivious, you could have spent $600 on a single keyword and made a better return.

The rest are good, but I'm from Utah, and I guarantee you will be holding on to that one for a while... Good luck with em though.

LOL - Yup. (Utah & Hawaii are the only states that don't have any form of legalized gambling)
Should probably develop it into a site where people digitally sign a petition if they would like a lottery.

thedomainster: At least we've got City Creek now! ;^)

From the news article above:
"...At least 21 states and the District of Columbia are considering online lottery sales or other wagering. "

Based on the above, Adam, ImageAuthors and haweye, I think you you forgot a good one. I was able to pick up DistrictofColumbiaOnlineLottery.com
Yes, i know it is a little long but what the heck :) maybe we will all get lucky.

Just curious, does anybody know what these "online lottery" domains could be worth?

I agree with you that the "online" keyword is normally redundant in a domain name. But people who are searching to buy lottery tickets online rather than leaving the house -- especially while this phenomenon of online lottery tickets is new -- may search with (or be receptive to) the word "online".

And I may lose money. Domaining is a game of risks. Still, I only have to make one $600 sale out of 70 to break even. And I like those odds better than a lottery ticket.

Hmm. I actually grew up in Utah and didn't even know the state lacked a lottery. Wasted money, but that's okay. In any process, losses are inevitable. And sometimes it's more inefficient trying to eliminate small inefficiencies than to just let them slide -- meaning that I didn't want to bother researching which states have which lottery policies. The time involved would have cost me more than 2 or 3 bad domain registrations.

Good info, though. Thanks.

Not saying I'm absolutely right about this but I know I am right for myself. I have been buying domains since 1999, everyday since 2002 (i know wtf was wrong with me). I read Adams post before anyone had posted in the thread and I quickly ran all the combos listed above when they were available and more. Didn't feel compelled to buy any of them. Experience makes you icy and that's just where you want to be. No question it is wise to take risks in this game, but they should be well calculated and within your personal risk tolerance. Hope that helps.

Had a couple in the cart, then deleted since the lottery is run by the state. Can't do affiliate programs with it, usually no ads for gambling and then possible confusion with whatever site the state goes with, which might lead to problems.

But to the title of the thread, yes, have always done that, many years with making affiliate sites and now with domaining as well.

Hmmm, guess I should not have sold LotteryTicket.net and LotteryTickets.net for $15k/each a few years back :(

Online = AOL = 1995.

AMAZING TIME WARP DISCOVERY!!!!

Somehow, people from 1995 are reaching into our 2012 future and searching in Google for phrases containing "online" 618 million times per month. These invaders have very bad taste. Let's defend ourselves by telling them that everything on the internet is "online", so they don't need this outdated redundant word.

I'm not saying that "online" is a great word to have in general. And, as I've said, these may turn out to be unwise purchases. But that's all part of the business. I am actually grateful for the criticisms about lack of affiliate programs, etc. Thanks.

What states dont have a lottery, they clean up in gas taxes. Runs to Mesquite, LV, Wendover, and Idaho,... arent free.
