The auction tonight was BRUTAL!!! The live auction needs to be revamped or eliminated.

Problems that I see:

The domain names are of low quality with too high of an asking price, or the real players just do not particpate here anymore.

I believe it is a combination of the two above.

In my opinion the live auction can be used as a tool for growth and continued marketability. In an effort to accomadate growth outside the resellers only market, it is my belief that the minimum for the live auction should be $15. We are all here to make money. It does not do any one of us good to sell a name for $1. The upside is that it forces resellers to do their homework and not register garbage. Leaders direct and implement change, it is time for this forum to drive the value of a domain up before enormous traffice comes to this site.

Auctions should be freely accessable for anyone registered at the forum. If money is an issue just charge a certain amount to list domains per auction.

The reason why auctions need to charge is to help eliminate deadbeats who don't care about losing their "free" membership, and vote... and walk away never to be seen again. Worse, when these are simply shill bidders.

At anyrate, I didn't attend the last auction, chiefly because I'd lost track of the whole issue. I have NO idea when these things are run, and I don't want to go out of my way to figure out if its *REALLY* going to happen this time. I've other things on my mind. Now, not saying I'm anyone important at all... just saying that this SAME thought may be going through many other unattending minds. For instance, Greg did a commendable job with those e-mail updates letting people know what was going on. Dunno if anyone complained, but it certainly began getting my attention. When Sunday came... I was clear their was something happening, and afterwards... I was told little updates on the happenings.

Communication is KEY, and I don't think it can be a passive OR impersonal (read: simply banner ads) exercise when it comes getting the word out.

I don't know if people complained about getting too much e-mail from dnforum, but I thought it was entirely appropriate for the occasion.

Best,

Problem with the auction is that whatever the name is, it's going to sell for bottom dollar with few exceptions. Selling on the For Sale forum always brings better prices for name, so there is little incentive to use the auction.

The only solution I can see is if more "buyers" were to attend the auction.

Just curious... Is DNForum painted in Gold on the bottom of your pool?

Also, sorry I missed the grand opening of the DNForum memorial Spa.

Enjoy!

PS Good luck with your next venture ;)

I saw many crappy names on the auction list. So, I didn't attend. Probably, the owner should load a lots of their 3-letter .coms into the next auction.

A lot of 3 letter domains would definitely help. :D :D :D I would have been there but the power was off for 18 hours here because of the Tornados and so that was that. www.humansvillemo.biz

What a mess - I missed the auction due to Mothers Day Dinner - Glad I did - Wish we had not listed names - Think this might be it for us on this auction - Something surely needs to be done -

I updated the "Sales Data" thread after tonight's Live auction.

Is the Auction system "fatally flawed"?!?
Appreciate your input.

Hello CoolHost - Seems as though the turn-out is suffering. They need to market this auction immediately or just shut it down. It appears that it does not matter if opening bids are $1.00 or $100.00 - if there is not buyers at the auction, domains will not sell. Also Sunday night for some of us with families, is a very bad night to dedicate 2+ hours to. At 7pm est on a Sunday, there is many things going on that far out-weight sitting at an auction. Maybe a change to a week night or day at a reasonable hour, would be a smart move (at least for us). Marketing is the key to the success to any business and their appears to be none of that taking placeon this auction. Great idea having a weekly domains auction, just bad planning, it appears. That is my 2 cents worth.
