Well ... my understanding is that nobody NEEDS to upgrade. It's more a privilege to those who wants more. For instance, the Exclusive membership provides, among many other features, a fraud-safe environment for both buyers and sellers which many of our members have been asking for.

Adam (DCG) has also made it clear that "Platinum and Gold Members will not lose any of their existing features", and I don't see why this newly added membership group would have any negative impact on Platinum members, except perhaps an incentive to upgrade and get more.

Nobody NEEDS to pay more, LewR. This newly added membership group is only there for those who want more. True, the Exclusive section is bringing DNForum to the next level (by e.g. providing a fraud-safe environment for both buyers and sellers which many of our members have been asking for), but Adam (DCG) has also made it clear that "Platinum and Gold Members will not lose any of their existing features". I honestly don't see why this would have any negative impact on Platinum members, except perhaps an incentive to upgrade.

In my opinion, it waters down the membership of those whose get a membership to get the best only to have a new and better one emerge later on. Then, the best new features go mainly to that top level. I am sure that platinum will not lose any features, but it does lose its status around here as being the top dog.

If this is the LAST one tho and the price is not too high, I will do it.

The only problem is that the Ogre does not own a fax, but I guess I can figure a way to do it. :-D

I think "Exclusive" may well be a good value. I have to agree however, that I'd find paying a little "fee" on top of my plantinum membership and getting an extra icon would be MUCH better. I have more of a problem with creating a completely NEW membership level (diluting the idea). While it may be the last level (who knows), it feels cumbersome.

The whole "membership" system with the addition of "exclusive" has just gotten "too complicated". 3 levels is fine enough, and Platinum should probably be the highest IMHO. This "tiered" system is just becoming too hard to look at for me. "Platinum Plus" or "Platinum Select", and put it as a sub-forum inside of the Platinum area or something. Browsing this forum is feeling more and more convoluted.

The implication is - if you are not an "Exclusive" member that will have a less chance of committing fraud, then you as a Platinum member are MORE likely to commit fraud. It gives the IMPRESSION that non-exclusive equates to non-trustworthy. Read the word IMPRESSION ...

Why are so many asking questions already? Because there are some who are already using this moniker. It shows folks here want facts, not rumors, and that is a good thing.

I wonder what level comes after Exclusive - SNOB?...LOL

I think you missed the boat on what I was saying. The only perception I care about is how management percieves the memberships going forward. If it comes down to Exclusive or Platinum which do you think will get more attention?

Just look at Gold and Platinum. I dont see much value in the gold membership because Platinum got all the better features.

Quote:"Platinum and Gold Members will not lose any of their existing features".

I'm sorry, but it is not correct. At least some of said members, especially platinum ones, paid for their ability to share/access full range of forum information on the first place (with natural exception of private staff forum).
If any new discussions/informational forum would not be available to them... So the value of platinum membership is not the same now.
No doubts that this idea will work. Some members will continue to pay for access and ability to share full range of information. Some members enjoy any new icons and will pay for those icons with their name. Some members will pay just because they see others who paid. Some members will start pay more attention to dnstate forums instead.
If the forum needs more money, it might be good idea to create up to dozen of membership levels. Money will come by the same reasons :)

Management must be nuts to make these kind of changes and to NOT POST A SINGLE ANNOUNCEMENT in the news section although they said they would do it from now on.

Well, whole site got revamped and guess what - not a single statement in the news section about it.

I don't get these guys anymore, really.

That was my point - Some became "Exclusive" before we even knew what it was....LOL Not a problem, I imagine they are part of the support staff, and they should have some privilege.

I guess if we didn't give a shirt, we wouldn't be posting questions to find out what is going on.

management will squeeze as much money out of us as possible. If DCG really wants to make the board a better place - and not have money invloved - he should give all Platinum members a free upgrade....

Why not add a plutonium section? We can pay you more money if order to get more features, like posting smilies (which seem to have disapeared....at least for me)

This is getting rediculous....I have a feeling management will see a mass-exodus from this forum to the free ones....

LOL - It may turn out to be more like Kryptonite. If people are upgraded based on be able to verify information- that is a good thing - if it simply a cash cow - that may prove to be less attractive to the community.

We understood there was a cash need to provide a good forum.

I wonder if this is a preperation for the next sale of the forum?
