IMO age matters quite a bit if you are aiming for a competitive phrase on Google. If that's important to you then age will be high on your list of 'must have' elements in the overall SEO plan. If this is not a big issue then age is not a big deal. The only other reason age could be an issue is if you (or your company) are trying to put up a facade of having been in business with name x,y, or z for some time.
