I took a major hit this year in the market. I made shearing profits last year only too see it tumble due to an over investment in OTC (Still was profitable but I stayed in a bit longer then I should have). Since then, I've completely been revamping my portfolio. Hey, I'm still a young guy with no family- I have to take risks. With Obama in office I have decided to focus on these three aspects of investments: alternative energy, municipal bonds and infrastructure. I really think those are the platforms that will generate the most profit in forth coming months and years. It's simply a new form of the new deal. I've decided to focus on 3 companies for each sector and (for now) take everything out of any short-termed focused investments. Oh and buying lots of green related domains. What are you doing with your investments with this new administration?

im also a younger guy with no kids, i took a big hit because my stock/fund portfolio was mostly rated as risky.. im in it for the long haul, so im slowly buying back in to average down.. also saving a nice chunk for when real estate finally bottoms out - a nice multi-family house would be perfect.

I am 22 and work for a small company (~25 employees) as a software engineer and we just recently got 401k, so I have only seen a slight decline in my investments. I've been on a little buying spree for domains, but don't have anything in particular that I am buying. Just looking for good deals.

Been in stocks and burnt the pockets.

now in domains (as far as I could see or with what I learned on this forum)
did not do well with domains as well.
-- In this I lost a lot of time and learned that I lost time.

Not lost money as I am doing OK with my sites.

Basically earning on sites and spending on domains. (not really good ones so far)
LLLL was a big bad investment (not sure what to do with them)
I make $0.01 or $0.02 parking them once a while.

I'm stupid if I say I've invested only in domains?
Never invested in stocks in all my life...I need to start?
Don't like me much the stocks niche...I prefer real estate if I have to choose.

I haven't been burnt in my investments this year, but I haven't seen growth.
Still, better than the loss that most people have been hit with.

Clarification: There was a dip during the October 10th debacle, but primary materials are ALWAYS needed, and my folio is weighted that way.

Never have lost a penny in land (acreage tracts).

Typically double or quadruple my investment.

If it is waterfront, superb.

Look for overextended investors needing to sell. Land is much better than homes/buildings. No upkeep. No repairs. No rehab needed.

However, I have been looking at a historical all brick building. Zoning is flexible. Superb for shop and living quarters upstairs. I know all about this building and its needs having been friends with the former owner. It will be a hard sell right now so holding out.

Stocks are a bargain. But be forewarned - there is still room to fall. Looking at several for the long run. Mega-Mergers and buy outs could be lucrative if you pick right and time right. Look at Circuit City. Today, 16 cents; 52-Week High 8.24 52-Week Low 0.06.

The 401-K/403-B situation...absolutely long term only.

Domain names - good easily brandable words that have age and history seem to be doing well.

Recent sales (not mine):
Euphoria.com $21K
SweetSuccess.com $8K
SpywareInfo.com $15.5

I don't remember the exact amount, but SiliconValley.info sold I think for $35? I may be way off of that but I was impressed.

The shocker - HFH.com $3,355.00

Yes, LLL are great. But most are hard to brand and monitize. This is perhaps 1/3 of what I would say it would have went for 10 months ago.

So I am looking at quality one or two words, easily brandable, with age and history, in nearly every extension.

Yet I am always aware that nothing is a sure bet.

I will most likely buy some real estate soon, as the prices are totally flattened out here in Norway at the moment. Nothing beats domain investing though. :)

HI

I am not really buying more domains now unless I can develop them... I am spending the money I would be on new domains... to develop some of the better ones I have right now.

My goal is to get them earning money that I can then re-invest in better domains down the road.

Thanks
Tom

I'm still trying to find something profitable on my small budget. :)

As for investments - my 401K has only grown by $500 this year and that includes all contributions. :(

Debating getting into silver.

I told everyone who cared to listen to get into silver and gold about a month - six weeks ago... Both have gone up over 10% since...

Developing websites for our domains.

With the overall softening of the domain name sales market, will focus on content based websites for our domains and grow website revenue streams the next couple years.

Looking for good cheap LLLL.com right now, but haven't bought many. Kind of checking for hidden gems, ones with letters I can make some meaning out of. Also always on the lookout for good .ca.

Have also bought some beaten down mining penny stocks on the Toronto stock exchange, ones with diamond/metals/coal assets that will have value when things recover. Like stocks that were trading over a dollar at one point, and now under 10 cents.

Oil and mining stocks have been beaten down so bad, you just need to buy and hold. Countries like China, India, Brazil will continue to develop at some point and will need resources and energy big time again.

I used to be heavy in the Canadian Oil Trusts. What a bonanza up there. Monthly dividends auto-reinvested in stocks. Made a damn killing a few years back and should not have sold. Pengrowth Energy Trust was one of them. Was into about three but for some reason that stands out. And with DRIP (Dividend Re-Investment Plan) these share accounts and values just grew incredibly well.

Unquestionably Trusts like that a good long term market strategy as oil/gas/home heating is cyclic.

Oil tanker stocks were also good at one point. There are only so many super tankers in the world that drives their prices up and up. Had stock in Knightsbridge that tripled in the course of about 6-8 months. A co-worker overheard the converstation, put about $2K in, and walked away in that time with about 7.5K. profit. We both got in and out about the same time.

I lost $40,000 in the stock market in 6 days. And I feel like Sheeet.

http://www.chrisdesouza.com/images/abk.bmp

But, I am making some high profile sales and I will put the money back in the market. I am a sucker for trading. Gives me a high like no drug can....

The stock market is for fools and I am one. Those market makers will suck every blood out of you if you are not careful.
