Are they any good?

I had used leapfish before and it seemed worthless. Is estibot any better?

As with every other automated appraisal service, it is only good for getting stats on the particular domain, like pagerank, archive.org listing, alexa rank, backlinks etc. Don't put "Estibot appraises my domain at $15,000 USD, therefore I'm looking for offers in this price range" in your sales thread, please. ;)

estibot is not too bad actually, not sure what exact method they use, I am sure there might be more to it than they show, but for the majority of names they are actually pretty close IMO

all automated appraisals are crap. even human appraisals like that of sedo/godaddy/moniker does not reflect the market price 90% of the time

There is no such thing as "Domain Appraisal". There are some guidelines among resellers for some short names (2/3/4 character/letter) but they are still not accurated.

The real price of a name is not established until there is an agreement between the buyer/seller as each name is unique so you can't based on past sales to predict the price of a name.

Just my 4 cents.

I often refer to Estibot to quickly gather metrics on domains that I'm considering registering. It provides a lot of useful information in one quick snapshot.

Estibot is an excellent rough estimate appraisal tool.

I found the "Bark" system to be much more reliable

What is the URL for this system?

It was a joke ;) You would have better success calling out domains to your dog, counting his barks and multiplying them by $1000, as opposed to using Estibot.

The program is way too erratic, last month one of my domains was worth $95,000, this month its worth $2600, the month before that it was $0

lol..that's funny :)

yea you are right. I am wondering we can't get a better system of appraising domain name values. I mean, there are tools to appraise practically everything but domain names.

Even though it is a very challenging process, I don't think that it cannot be done

why is that?

Never used the service, but it isn't necessary to realise automatic appraisals services are good for nothing, except maybe inflating egos.

That is scary coming from an exclusive...

It isn't scary at all. Head over to DNJournal, and cross compare. A lot of Estibot's appraisals are on the mark. I think they have an AI system running it now. :eek:k:

I use the Magic 8-Ball for deciding when to sell, which I highly recommend by the way.

Actually estibot has been integrated with namebio. I spoke to their founder a while back when he was working on the integration. Now I think they also have an AI script to compare against the namebio database and guess how close the given word comes to a match against a similar spelled existing name in namebio.

I think the next version (v3) might be much better than the current one.

In any case, I think it's better that leapfish.com :p

They use public sales data so you should expect values on published sales to be dead on. Instead of just rehashing known values, you may want to set your opinion using private sales data.
