what is the future of LLLL.com (not so premimum names) in about 10 years?

Basically, I am looking at long term like 10 years.

if I get some $15 to $50 range LLLL.com domains.

What would be the price prediction for them in 10 years?

Thanks

Acronyms and branding is the future you are looking at. What costs you $50 could be $5000 ten years on. Put it this way, your $15 will be $1500. Branding rules!

if we go with this prediction, we can buy and hold the urls - big time as long term investment.

I'm hesitant to even think that far in the future.... Domain names may not even be relevant then, who knows what we'll use? Think about the internet 10 years ago and how far we've come

Well, I would say that in 5 years time, when LLL.coms become as rare and expensive as LL.com, maybe there'll be something for the 4 letter .coms...of course depending on how brandable and pronounceable the name is...I don't think anything will change too significantly, at least not in 4-5 years from now. Bull**** LLL.com's easily go for a few ks now...I'm tempted to assume that it'll be the same case for your 15$ investments. On the other hand, may be L-L-L.com would be preferable to a crappy LLLL.com. Who knows?

@ wisedude:
I think people will still use the .com for the next 4-5 years, at least. Beyond that, I guess we'll have to see a fortune teller.

Just my 2 cents.

I think in 10 years, domains will be replaced with 3D color-coded bubbles.

Also, predict the future of domains at my new thread:
http://www.dnforum.com/f77/will-com-domains-exist-10-years-20-years-thread-256350.html

Actually - As with coin collecting, it's better to buy a single rare coin (or domain) for $5,000 than 500 common coins (or domains) for $10 each. The value of a better-quality name should do better in the long run.

ummm ... 10 years ago let's see ... google.com ... slashdot.org ... hmmmm. Nothing new under the sun really.

10 years from now still going to be seeing a big premium on .com + short names ... Add another multi-billion+ online population - many with names such as Jiang, Wei, Xiao, Qing, and Zhou ... I think WXQZ.com etc shouldn't be too hard to find a loving home for sometime between now and then.

(Hmmm ... just checked - sure enough, WXQZ.com is already online - and yes it's a Chinese language page.)

it's good that you are looking at domains in terms of the future, rather then their value now.
as I believe many who are trying to acquire good names now, don't see this when making their offers.

the past is the best indicator to gauge the increases in values for domains.

if you go back and search the escalating prices of LL/NN > LLL/NNN domains from 2000 to 2003 and then from 2003 to 2007, you could calculate their respective "rates of growth" in value over a specific period.

that data can assist you in "projecting" the values in the future.

one can see that "LLLL.com" domains are gaining in value, from reg-fee to 5 figure and up sales.
what is selling for $20 > $50 today, will sell for $35 to $100 next year and $40 > $125 the year after.

imo....

what's worth nothing to begin with is worth nothing in 10 years

meaningful and pronouncable LLLL combo's are a different story

I wouldn't plan that long with domains, it's really hard to predict.
But in a year these domains should be worth a few times more already.

Agreed here, although diversification is also important
