Question ;

Do we always need to pay top dollars for good names ?

Have you ever acquired a great name for a low dollar value and sold it to an end user or a reseller at a value which was costx50 or costx100 ?

Thanks for sharing.

In spring of 2000, I registered "HollywoodLifestyle dot com" for $15 Canadian.

In late summer of 2000, sold it for $ 1,000 US.

And, I wasn't even into it, like I am now.

Interestly enough, the domain was purchased by Stan Lee Media (Stan Lee is founder of Marvel Comics and creator of Spiderman & Hulk) but I didn't wanna push my luck and ask for more and riks to turn them off, as I wasn't so sure that the name is that great.

Sure enough, months later the name expired. They never did anything with it.

P.S.

Bought myself a nice, cushy, one of them great-for-your-back king size beds. Still sleeping on it.

Thanks for "sweet dreams", Stan.

Got a domain through snapnames back when they cost $35..or maybe $45. (Can't remember). 6 months later I sold it for 12k back to the company that USE to own it :)

What's funny is that the company still hasn't done anything with it.

nice Bob.. what name, if you don't mind sharing..

StaffordLoans.com

Sold to FinancialAid.com. :bandit:

Also had these:

$10 to $1300
$10 to $3500
$100 to $2500

And cannot forget the famous $1 Staples / Register.com deal. I picked one up there for $1 and sold it for $1000.

Hand-regged a .org & first time I promoted it to end-users had several interested parties & sold it for $1100 but most likely would have got more from one of the others but didn't wanna lose the sale.

Also, godaddy backordered a name the night of the drop & sold for $675 a week later.

Well once again all the above experiences show that there are a lot of gems out there and you do not need a killer bankroll to get results in this industry.

Thank you for sharing your experiences folks, keep them coming.

i think time is a major factor in transactions :)

8k to 18k 2 days
3k to 6k 1 day
4k to 13k 1 week
$5 to $250 a week
2k to 5k 1 week
$250 to $1250 2 hours

way more though

just too lazy to think em all up :)

people with the $8 regs and high sales bear in mind that I registered my first domain just over 6 months ago :p

Is it fair to assume these were sales during/before the 2000 bust?
