I developed a site 2 years ago and was approached by a large plc to bring it under their umberalla. I was offered a good salary, ã100,000 of share options, ã100,000 annual marketing budget and a ã25,000 budget for buying content.
I did the deal, GAVE them the site/domain in return for all the above and a clause that said I also got ã10,000 for the domains if they sacked me within 12 months.
Three months later they had a change of direction and I was sacked. It then got very acromonious and it turned out that the contract I had was full of clauses that could be interpreted in many ways, the upshot of which was that I lost all my options and they said they wouldn't give me more than ã5000 for the domains!!
You need a lot of money to fight big business and I didn't have it, so I lost the lot. So when people talk about ethics I know from first hand experience that big business rarely has ethics.
