To me the argument above boils down to this: Despite purporting to meet a very specific need of a huge upcoming market and having an unprecedented industry backing, there is still a chance that .Mobi will fail....right? Yes, there's always that possibility in any venture, especially one based on technology and Internet....but, if we as domainers are not up for that, then may be we should be investing in government backed securities....:cheeky:

Did I nail it... or did I nail it?

http://www.google.com/mobile/mobile_search.html

Google search results presented with an option for MOBILE WEB.... Exclusive to .mobi domains?

It's a very short step from here to Google detecting that the search is originating from a moble and just delivering .mobi results.

As a Business, on the web... can you afford to NOT have a mobi site and be listed in Google's .mobi search results?

LOL... and so it begins. :)

I'm not a naysayer, but am openminded. GoPC stated that Google's MOBILE WEB is exclusive for .mobi, which is simply untrue.

None of the .mobi elitists have come up with anything other than the "potential", which is fine. Anytime there is this much hype, people can make some money by flipping names. I hope ALL of your investments payoff.

I'm trying to keep an open mind too, and definitely don't want to join this debate right now.

Just a quick point: There is only one reason I can think of that would justify any true .mobi believer publicly stating the key arguments before mid-October, and that would be that they've maxed out all their credit cards already.

Would not be surprised either if some sensible 'naysayers' are quietly working on their lists and checking which registrar plans to offer the best prices in 24 hours.

Can somebody please recite again the arguments against .mobi - for the benefit of those that are in danger of buying too many .mobi's for their own good tomorrow?

I didn't mean to say it is exclusive... in line with my earlier posts, I was suggesting more about WHAT IF it were exclusive. That statement was supposed to end in a Question Mark, not a period.

Sorry I didn't make that more clear.

It was a point of discussion, nothing more.

The fact is that Google is behind mobi. The reference to Mobile Web and Mobi has been used interchangedly by the mobi investors and Google had preparired itslef for the mobile market previous to the mobi release.

Then I read this article about Google having a special search retreival specifically for "Mobile Web" and the statment "Use Google Mobile Web Search, which searches through sites that have been specifically designed for mobile phones and devices." Which is exactly the definition that Google and the other collective investors trumpet.

My point is that it is a VERY small step to the point where the search results (or preprogramed softkeys, shortcuts or anything else) can be made to prefer mobi sites over other dot commons or even to provide exlusive quick linked results to mobi sites over dot commons.

Just a prediction... don't know if I'm right but the (to me) obvious suggestion made in that google page sure seems to point that way.
