There are no rules against using .org commercially but it does send the wrong message since it is associated with non-profit groups. Commercial enterprises will go better with .US. However today, .org already has universal recognition while .US has just come out of the gate and must build awareness among the public.
That is why if you were trying to sell a name today it would be easier with .org that .us. I think that will gradually change over the next few years though and for that reason if I were developing a commercial site (rather than just selling a name) I would go ahead and put it on a .US knowing that will be a better business extension for the long haul.
