I like to know which countries use their ccTLD than .com domains.

I know

.de , .pl , .co.uk are used more commonly than .com domains in their respective countries.

Any other extensions?

I appreciate your help.

Listening to Czech radio on my iPhone I've noticed that all on-air commercials use the .cz extension exclusively.

I'll have to disagree with that one. While .us is gaining popularity most Americans still think .com unlike countries like the UK and Germany that think .co.uk and .de respectively.

Maybe our friends up north can tell us if .ca is more popular than .com up there?

I'm also seeing .be being used a lot in Belgium.

.cn for China
.jp is heavily searched by Japanese to find native language sites, not sure if it surpasses .com.

Yes, .CA domains are popular (and getting more and more popular) up here, but there's still a loooong way to catching up with .COM. Remember, Canada is actually the 51st state of the U.S.

In most of Europe the local ccTLD seems to be is dominant.

Technically, .co.uk (and .co.nz, etc.) is a second-level domain, not a TLD. It's one of several SLDs in .uk for different categories of entities, such as .org.uk and .gov.uk.

I'd have to go with .co.uk in the UK.

And .cn and .jp in their respective countries.

This is a very interesting subject to talk about, have you ever noticed how Google ranks different websites differently when you are on Google.co.uk as opposed to Google.com or Google.com.au as opposed to Google.com. Same goes for Baidu.com, which I think is influencing search results and hence .cn cctld favoritism in China.

Thanks

.au in Australia no question.

In fact, from the responses here it seems that EVERY country uses their own ccTLD more than .com except for the US.

Is this correct? Anyone have any examples of countries other than US that prefer .com?

co.uk

As I said before tonight, a very popular ccTLD which is 10% as large as .com and where big money changes hands.

I was in Denmark recently. I only saw .dk domains, not one .com domain.

I'd say ccTLDs are more popular than gTLDs in all European countries.

Allot of people in the uk use .co.uk i would guess in the uk maybe 55% use .com and 45% use .co.uk thats a guess but more companies are using .co.uk because its more powerful than .com in google.co.uk

Another inquiry would be which countries still opt for com over cctld?

I noticed co.jp used more than any other in Japan

I can assure you that .co.uk is far more powerful than .com in the UK. Rest easy on that one.

Nameslave is right, .ca is far behind .com here but there is a kind of pride in having a .ca here that I don't see in the .us ccTLD.
