Hi I never said that you are an arogant person, this is what I wrote:

"it is even better for me that most of the people arrogant like you about posibilty of earning that much with canadian domains."

I didn't mean to insult you, and I am sorry if I did. I don't think I should participate in this discussion anymore because it doesn't make
sense to try to convince people about something that they can't even register, because they are not canadians. For most of the members .ca
extension can't be attractive.
I opened one site already called www.Every.ca that dedicated only to canadian domains, and I am going to open "Domain Stock" site in few months. People will be able to go there and invest 100$ for a guaranteed return of 35% during one year no strings attached. I consider myself a person that understands .ca market, and I stand behind the comments that I made about the return.

So, once again I want to apologize if my comment insulted you in some way.

Stocdoctor said:
I don't think calling me arrogant or any other insult is going to get you too far. Calling me ignorant of the .ca market might be more appropriate.

I never said that I thought you were stupid and crazy, but I do think you were overzealous in the support of your .ca extension. Sorry about the ridecule, but after so many years in the investment field, I naturally bristle at anyone claiming guaranteed returns, no matter what the extension or vehicle. Toning down "guaranteed" and "300%" to discussion about your own personal experience would be better received, and much more convincing.

Hi

Thanks "DomeBase" for starting this thread!

All comments are now coming from the "horses mouths" so to speak!

StocDoctor, raises an excellent point!

investing in traffic revenue vs. "new extension's growth potential" such as ".in" speculation.

therefore, any extension, which produces revenue becomes valuable!

which tld or cc has the highest current rate of return on investment?

it's ".com"

when compared with the general reseller/investor population!

but this is only valid for investors who have ".com" in their portfolios!

those who do not, but have achieved profitable "roi" are in a different class.

they are not ".com" dependent!

the guy/gal who buys 10 selective "non .com" extensions at regg fee.....

ie:

search.in

domain.in

money.us

and sells at the right time or holds while collecting traffic revenue....

his "roi" potential is enormous!

i guess the question is......how long are we willing to wait for the "roi"?

Thanks biggedon, I also enjoy seeing the votes come in as a catalyst for worthwhile discussion. Many of the points that you raise also relate to a DNF poll on domain selection strategies which you might find of further interest...

http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?t=88571

...and I have the selfish objective of hoping to get as many voters as possible to make the results more meaningful. If we can get a good number of votes (e.g. 75+) then I will write up the results for submission to Duke and DNJournal with source here. Granted, surveying domainers does not give the same results as surveying "people on the street," but I think that the results are interesting nonetheless and, in some respects, surveying specialists in an area can be more interesting than surveying "people on the street." For example, the mean projected estimates for stock earnings are the mean of analyst projetions, not a survey of people on the street. Thanks again, and thanks to all who are voting.

re:Thats not true, if more people would see it, You would also make more money.

Yes , you are right . If the market is bigger the prices will be higher. At his point it is actually better to have less people involved, because still many valueble names availbale for registration.

re: And thats really low, I still manage to get good .com-s for $60 and sell them in few weeks for $1000+

I was talking about GUARANTEED return. SOme names cost more, some cost less. What is your point? You want to say that any domain .com will make you 1000%?

Guys, take a look at .com market.

What are you dealing with? all these "word-another word-another word.com" names !
People that have premium names can sell them and buy houses in the best areas. Most of us don't have money to buy these names - these are very costly!
Registering a premium .com name is impossible, and selling word-another word-another word.com" for big money is not guaranteed. When I said that .ca can provide guaranteed return I based my opinion on the fact that you are dealing with premium name. I can give you an example:
I registered for registration fee domain names ESTABLISH.ca / DOMINATE.ca and
WAGE.ca
It is much easier for me to sell these names for 100$ each and make huge return percentage wise on my investment, than registering a "word-another word-another word.com" domain and try to sell it. For me personally it is much easier to find a buyer for a premium canadian name than to find a buyer for a long .com name .

Can I just offer a little caution on that planned site of yours? Canada has laws that require the licensing of anyone offering securities for sale, with a ton of registration requirements and costs. Someone can't just offer an interest in an investment qualified as a security without approval of the regulatory body. You open yourself up to liability if you take on such a venture without checking into what's required. Bottom line is they'd shut you down faster than you can blink, especially if you use the word guaranteed. To them, it's the same as fraud.

Not trying to be arrogant again here, just have a clue about this stuff. You know what they say? Nothing in Life is guaranteed except Death and Taxes.

No, thats not what I said. I said I still manage to get some...
So but You make %300 on every .ca domain that You register? I don`t think so.

Its also easy to register word word .com and sell them for $100, but thats not what I am after. And I have to tell You, if You sell domain for $100 then its not premium, It can be .com, .ca or whatever

Can you take a look in that crystal ball of yours and tell me which stocks or bonds I should be buying this year? Would save me a lot of work.
Whilst you're at it, can you look and tell me who's gonna win next years Kentucky Derby? I'm looking to lay a bet down.
Thanks
Doc

Doc,

I looked into my crystal ball and it suggested you sell all of your stocks and Bonds and retire to Fla.

Furthermore, it also suggested that you IMMEDIATELY sell all of your quality .us domains particularly the state ones.

Just so you don't lose any money on the deal. I will buy all of your state .us domains for what you paid for them. :-D

(I believe the medical term for it is - "State Envy".) :-D

PRELIMINARY REPORT ON POLL ON DOMAIN EXTENSIONS FOR INVESTING

This is a report on the preliminary results from a survey of forum members at DNForum on which domain names they prefer for investing given current prices and potential appreciation. The exact wording was: “Which extension(s) are the best for investing in domain names -- considering differences in current prices and your expectations of possible increases or decreases in future value?”

Please note that this is not a poll of which extensions are most valuable ignoring price, but rather a poll of which extensions present the best opportunity for increased value given current prices and expected appreciation. For example, a poll of "Which is more valuable -- gold or bronze?" will give one result and a poll of "Which is better for investment given current prices -- gold or bronze?" will give another result. The second question, including consideration of current prices, is more economically meaningful for evaluating investment potential than the first question, ignoring current prices. This poll on domain name extensions is of the second type.

The poll allowed forum members to vote for more than one extension. The following are the raw results after 74 votes, but the poll is still open and we hope for many more participants.

.COM = 59 of 74
.NET = 13 of 74
.ORG = 14 of 74
.INFO = 21 of 74
.BIZ = 6 of 74
.WS = 3 of 74
.## = country extension for my own country = 18 of 74
.US (although I do not live in the United States) = 16 of 74
.DE (although I do not live in Germany) = 4 of 74
.CO.UK (although I do not live in the United Kingdom) = 4 of 74

Looking at the results for .COM, one can view the glass as being half full or half empty. It is clear that “.COM is still King”, with 80% (59 out of 74) of voters viewing it as a good extension for investing. This is around three times the percentage of any other single extension. In this respect, the glass if half full for .COM. However, it is clear that .COM no longer has a monopoly on investment potential. Around two thirds of voters think that some alternative extensions can make worthwhile investments. .INFO is in the number two spot, with 28% (21 out of 74) of voters viewing it as being a good extension for investment. Although it is tough to design a poll within only 10 lines to précisely measure the attractiveness of country codes due to variation in which countries people are from, it seems pretty clear from the poll results that Country Codes in general (and .US in particular) are close behind in third place (around 24% and 22%, respectively). Next come the “established alternatives” .ORG and .NET, followed by .BIZ and .WS at the bottom of the list.

Your comments and feedback on the results and write up are welcome and will be considered in future write ups. After we get a large number of votes, I will submit the final results to the DNJournal.

I think .info is very good extention. I would personally rather have an keyword / dictionary word.info rather than extentions like .org / .biz :)

Its probably the only success story of the recent extentions introduced because it applies to many sites / words.

A very personal thing but I saw a potential in .co.in, bought a lot of them, sold a few hundred for an average of around $200, prices from just over reg fee to $2500, total sales to date in excess of $96,000 for an outlay of some $7k+ just some 3 months ago.A combination of bulk(mainly) and individual sales, around 10%.

Sold a large number at just over cost to reduce liablity for renewals next year kept 200 + premium names for the future at TajMahal.co.in . Still see value in the best ones and they get good daily hits.

Guys, voted for the .com extension along with .TLD (.fr, france is in massive expansion period concerning the number of internet users...)

I think you missed out the crucial one...

The .EU extension which I beleive could possibly in the long term become more popular then the .com

What do you think ?

Really impressive, but you haven't even touched on the most happening places or the most happening types of domains. Speculation is about innovation, foresight being ahead of the curve. So what do we get here "old school dot coms" to quote one investor that likes to string a several words and acronyms together. Give me a break!

I voted .co.uk, although I am totally non-associated with UK. .Com is generic, however, doesn't represent any specific body, while US is not worth a lot, and .ca expensive and not a lot better. I see the UK moving rapidly to their home extension (with low prices as well), creating an exlusive UK market. There is no more room for major growth in the .Com, followed by .Net, followed .Org, followed by .Info, followed by .Biz - all the good domains are long gown.

The reason that co.uk prices are low are the high feess and commission required for the bureaucratic transfer of .co.uk names. I own quite a few and I am well aware of the frustrations of speculating in this market. Furthermore, dot coms are seen as the cachet of companies with global reach and market stature. I am afraid that I experience of the UK market tells me that expectations of higher pricing in the UK are market are unrealistic.

The .co.uk market offers huge potential. The difficulty of transferring .co.uk names has, in my experience, made it EASIER to persuade people that low-ball offers won't fly, given that it's easy to make the case that it's a "hassle" to transfer domains...

.coms will always be top dog, then .net would be 2nd on peoples list. I think all these others, will only drive .coms higher in the years to come.
