I think what Francisco wants to know is who on DNF is an official Bido Expert. As those using Bido may know, Bido has "experts" who can comment on the domains for sale there.

I've been a Bido expert ever since the service was launched, but I quickly stopped making comments. Especially now that they have more than one domain for sale every day I don't want to waste my time by posting comments that nobody will read. There is too much noise on Bido's website now, in my opinion, so it's hard to concentrate on the domains for sale or to actually find the good domains.

It's more like Ebay now. Although Ebay collects a lot more listing fees on auctions of names that will never sell.

i agree with the comments above about bido. I can live with one or five quality names a day. but not 100 shitty names each day. they are truly diluting themselves. i dont bother with them any more. i hope they get back to the basics.

These days Bido spends more time promoting its new features than promoting the domains for sale. If you look at the Bido home page, you see that the domains for sale are not even listed above the fold! Instead, most of the limited space is devoted to the explanation of the many Bido features.

I do think that most of the features make sense and they are undoubtedly innovative. But Bido is getting increasingly complicated as well as confusing. Although I like the overall design of the site, it has gotten a bit difficult to use. Especially when visiting Bido for the first time the site must look very confusing.

I agree that going back to basic could help. By that I don't mean to go back to just one domain auction per day. Bido has to pays its bills, so they must sell more than one domain to collect more fees. But the quality of the domains for sale has gone down and at the same time the website doesn't really help buyers find the better domains.

Bido remains a very innovative company. I only think they need to concentrate on their core business, which is the actual sale of domains and the attraction of bids, before introducing even more features.

Yup BIDO Sucks, and are making their experts look like idiots. I have marked their emails as SPAM now simply because it is a list of crap domains that noone would ever want..

you could also simply click "unsubscribe" to their emails in your bido account.

but i understand, complaining about spam is the cool internet thing to do.

Bido does not suck. I would rather say their service/feature list is growing too fast compared to the quality of the domains. The home page could use a redesign, too, in order to put the domains back in the spotlight.

What I don't understand: Only domains that receive a certain number of votes are sent to auction. But why is it then that most domains are of such low quality and hence end up without any bids? I would have thought that only the better domains would receive votes and go to auction. The contrary is the case, however.

For the record, I have used Bido as a domain seller in the past and it was a pleasant experience. I had four no-reserve auctions, and two of the domains were sold for $xxx. The transaction was handled okay afterwards. (With Bido's new buyer/seller transaction screen -- or whatever it is called -- the transactions might be completed even faster and more transparently now. Haven't tried it yet.) I guess I will give Bido another try when their "guarantee program" finally goes live.

A couple of reasons:

1. They used to require 10 votes, but lowered it to 5. Only a few of my best domains got 10 votes, but many more have gotten 5.

2. They permit people to buy votes. For example, over at NP, somebody was offering the equivalent of 20 cents per vote, and other members were taking that deal. That means you could get your domain into a live auction by paying $1.

If they reverted to 10 votes and banned auctions by people who had publicly bought votes, the average quality would rise somewhat.

I agree with everyone who says there's too much quantity and not enough quality on Bido these days, so I hope they'll consider some changes. Still, it's a very promising platform, and I've had some success there as a seller, so I want to be encouraging rather than just complaining!

There's a million things to do on a daily basis; the times that I leave an expert comment on Bido, I try to be short and to the point. The idea is to summarize a domain's best qualities in an objective manner. I don't comment on domains I dislike.

I think the idea around Bido and their platform is great, although most of the domains they auction are of no interest to me.

I also find some of their "experts" a bit too funny sometimes, especially when they see "great potential" and "commercial value" in domains like SelfMedicatedTaxiDrivers.net* . ;)

Tia has it right. Mediahound and Bido work for Bido - and as far as I know are the only people here who do openly work for them here.

Wow I didn't expect this thread to pick up so well thanks everyone.
And Dodo1 was right on the spot, that is what I wanted to know.

Everyone else's comments helped me understand a bit more about bido which makes me ask the following two questions:
1-Is there any good-etiquette or right place in forum to ask for expert comments in an auction?
2-how can one promote an auction without having others think you are a spammer, I know its looked down on in forums?

What you want to do is ask experts to comment on your upcoming Bido domain auctions?

I'm not 100% sure which forum section on DNF is right for that, but I assume it's either this very section ("Bido.com") or the "External Links" section, which is a sub-forum of "Domain Name Auctions".

You can also use the "External Links" section for the promotion of your Bido auctions. Some people have made such promotional posts in the "Bido.com" forum, but it is my understanding that this forum section is for discussions only, so I would rather use the "External Links" section for promotional threads.

Hope this helps. DNForum.com is growing every day and sometimes I have a hard time finding the right section for my threads, too. :)
