I actually use Google - make search for a word and google gives suggestion and search for digg no suggestion given, therefore this word got into dictionary ;)

Google doesnt make suggestions based on dictionary, but makes suggestions based on popularity of search.. and the 4 letter combination DIGG is being searched frequently so Google does not think that you made a mistake when you typed it. ;)

The dot-org domain goes nicely with the category and its use and I imagine had built-in traffic.

They let it expire because just like many other large webfirms they likely have incompetant employees and management and poorly run operations.

I don't see Digg lasting very long. Look at the articles that makes front page currently "Men without hats- The Safety dance". Digg.org might have been valuable if Digg was known for grassroots ideals or donations. Digg may get traffic but I would not call it quality. IMO its only a matter of time. Digg.org will be a cherished relic in domain lores to thrill the kids in so many years.

Not a soul would have given a crap if the .com wasn't developed. Not that it will last any ways. in my opinion... a bad buy at $826 less it can be monetized in the interim before the fall of its brethren. Oh... compete and alexa are not the say all in traffic stats for those posting them here. Both useless in trend forecasting.
