Seems like everyone are using vbulletion to run a domain forum? But, you need to purchase a license in order to use it? I think I will use phpbb, as its free of charge. Any other suggestions on which I should choose?

phpbb is very easy and works well.
Invisionboard has more features.
vBulletin is in another class!

Go with vbuletin. If cash is an issue, build the forum/membership on a free forum. If you grow to a decent ammount of active daily users, go with the V.

Also, I gotta be honest.
It looks more professional if you're using a VB.

anyone agree with this?

I like VB, I'm familiar with it, and $160 for a license isn't that big of a deal.

vBulletin is alright. But its overrated and bloated.

Invision Power Board is probably the best. With v2.0, it will surpass most all others out there in terms of features/speed. Just read up on both and compare vB3 with IPB2. You will see for yourself.

And if you are considering paying for a license, I say get a IPB license. $70/year or $200 lifetime. Its well worth it.

Frankly I don't see why vbulliten is so much more preferred? I haven't used it but the only thing I can see that I like more than with phpbb boards is the way they handle PM's, which has gotten worse with VB3.0 anyhow.

Also, just about all vbullitens boards look all the same plain type of style whereas people who use phpbb usually have more unique looking boards.

As for invision, just don't like the way it looks, not sure of it's functionality since I havem't used it either... I also think the "pinned" is very lame & they should have stuck with "sticky".

In the Admin CP, you can change it to say whatever you want. Same with "Moved:" and "Poll:". You can make that say whatever you want.

Invision 2.0 BETA1 has been released. I have a test forum up. If you want to check out the Admin CP, let me know. Ill give you the pass/name. :)

A "rough" estimate on the final is around 5 weeks. But dont quote me on that.

vB took like years to get 3.0 out. And right away, they have to release 3.0.1. After all that time, and all that time trying to get 3.0 out, they release it with bugs that need to be fixed ASAP.

Well, that was one of the reasons! :-D

Others reasons being... the base skin really turns me off & when I first found out about invision every board I seen was using it.

But otherwise it seems ok lol

... I may use it for my next board.. :-O

Hang on... I thought Invision was free?

"Lifetime License · $199.00

This will give you lifetime license to use Invision Power Board for one installation on all current and future versions. Selecting this option will also give you discounts on many of the extras for Invision Power Board. More Information...

One Year License · $69.95

This will give you one year license to use Invision Power Board for one installation on all current and future versions. Selecting this option will also give you discounts on many of the extras for Invision Power Board. At the end of one year your board will continue to run but will be unsupported unless you renew service. More Information... "

If I want to pay for forum software why would I buy invision over vbulliten?
