It's amazing how people can consciously hold 150,000 domains with 98% of them bad spelling?

quote from the article:
"But most parked domains don't generate enough traffic to show up at the top of search-engine rankings."

I was thinking that top results are generally based on incoming links, not traffic.

It is also interesting how words get twisted over time. These days, all "hackers" are criminals, and all domain name investors are "cybersquatters".

How does flashgames.com earn 150k a year with an Alexa of just 275,489? It also doesn't appear on the first page of Google and Yahoo searches of flashgames. :)

When John say's it makes 150k I assume he means from PPC since the site ads look like they could be a program like Overture or Adsense Premium Publisher ads and it primarily looks like a good PPC website design. However, the numbers make no sense at all.

The article say's 240,000 visitors a month go to flashgames.com. I assume that is uniques. John say's it earns $150,000 yr on its ads, or $12,500-mo.

Game sites typically get low CTR, according to long term stats I have access to a very good PPC designed page who's main focus is clicks (as is flashgames) gets roughly a 2.5% CTR. Game sites also typically get very low PPC values of about .05c a click.

If my math is correct (always could be wrong), that means if 2.5% of 240,000visitors/mo click the site gets about 6,000 clicks a month and earns approx $300 a month ($3,600/yr) from PPC at .05c ppc, a huge disparity vs $150,000 yr, or $12,500/mo.

This all makes zero sense. Something is seriously incorrect or weird here. Do you agree with my logic and math, or is it flawed somehow?

Yes, you forgot to factor in click fraud, which raises your 2.5% click estimate to 30%+.

It is just too easy to hire illegal workers in their thousands to click, click, click millions of time, and the good thing is that it will not be detected if you play the timings and IPs well. Let alone click bots. :high5:

It is just too tempting for anyone, big or small, to resist. The PPC model is critically flawed. :bolt:

It does seem high based upon my experience with links.com. I would estimate that he would be getting somewhere around $4000/mo if the 240000 visitors was correct. But I really have no idea what revenue share percentage I am getting, so even my figures can be easily off a bit.

I've got a generic games download site with about 35-40% CTR, so if they are getting 35% CTR, then 240,000 translates to 84000 clicks, and each click must fetch $0.14 to earn 12.5K a mth, which is on the high side, but not impossible. But firstly, do you think the site gets 8000 unique visitors a day? That website has been a parking page for at least the past few years.

Whether those 8000 unique visitors are bots or humans, nobody is telling, so you need to be careful what you read in the land of the blind.

Mole do you just constantly criticize PPC because you have no traffic names? I agree there is click fraud but there is plenty of legit PPC revenue too and if you read DN JOurnal the article from Dan Warner Ithink that details what the future of PPC will be (Not going away) But rather using a metric where by thesame advertiser willing to pay $1 a click may pay you 30% of that dollar and Me 80% based on a formula of how well the domain matches to the advertisers AD.

hmmm.....have often thought that may be the case too as Mole has been overly critical of PPC as far back as I recall, and that was several yrs at least.

P.S. Perhaps Mole is envious because of reading that some experts predict ppc could go as high as 100X yrly income.

maybe he just wants you to abandon your ppc names so that he can scoop up some bargains :)

Define traffic, xnx. Don't tell me you are naive to the programming tricks of the trade, I don't buy this in this day and age of enlightenment, thank god for fools shenanigans.

I happen to be on the side of the advertiser, good or bad. Domain fraudsters who profit from fools can only give the industry a bad name, since it is clearly proven that actual conversion rates from certain platforms like parked domains is abysmal. Let alone the tremendous fraud opportunities inherent in the PPC model.

You don't have to have a "traffic" name, whatever that is, to earn thousands of dollars on each domain. You just have to know how to play the system.

With fraud, you can easily make that 1000x :censored:

Was it really that easy. I dont think so.

How many variations for www.flashgames.com are there that not only sound the same and/or seem similar....but that even dont look the same but still promote a games "idea". I am sure a lot of tech work went into this that we dont hear about

I bet this is not the whole story and yes some people are just going to be lucky. If you have millions to invest to play with domains, ok, but I dont think it is going to be anything like pay day all round.

Maybe it encourages investment in domains names...or maybe it just enourages people to buy rubbish. This could be a bit of a bubble (bursting) scenario
